Hah, too funny that you and I were posting that at the same time...

Mom sometimes apologizes for our childhood... sis and I both struggled a lot, not fitting in at school (we blame me being in grade 1 at age 4 for most of my societal dysfuntion as a child)... but I tell her that I really love who I am NOW, and everything up to this point contributed.. and we never ever ever felt unloved. Twas a good enough way to grow up :)

X.

K, now I'm REALLY going to go work on those pants... heh, maybe if I promise a fashion show in the next two hours? Going...

Interesting about not fitting in as a child, I had trouble with reading and was kept back in 3rd grade eventually diagnosed with dyslexia. I spent Wednesday afternoons getting on a short bus and being taken to a different school for intensive reading therapy. I was out of step with my old classmates and never really fit in with my new ones, I was bright but did poorly with class work. Oh and it didn’t help I was horrible at sports. Eventual I began to take pride in being different. I found I could excel in art. In junior high a number of us who didn’t fit in else were joined together and formed our own peer group it saved me and helped me get though school.

This not fitting in as a child stuff, I wonder if it’s a common thing for people who are attracted to Burning man,.... or maybe it’s on-line community.....

Yeah, ain't it great!

By the time I get it loud enought to really enjoy it, it is painful for everyone else.

Yeah I sucked at sports too. One day my parents told me "we're enrolling you in little league baseball." I was the worst player on the team. The only games we lost were the ones that I did not play in. My teammates became superstitious about me not playing in games even tho I was the worst player and they all teased me mercilessly. So I always played. The number on my shirt was 13. Wierd huh?

I dunno. But I bet it is common for those who do not fit in as a child, at least for those who survive the experience, to be able to set aside preconcieved ideas and notions and really try to look and see what the other person is like on the inside. To feel what he feels. And to accept them for what they are.

why do I expect giving away booze is ok unless it has an olive or slice of lime in it then we’d need a food permit.

Aquick look finds that:

In Nevada, there is no state agency which regulates liquor laws. Under state law liquor licenses are issued by county governments. Most liquor laws are made at the county level, including hours of operation, employment of minors and other conditions for the sale of liquor.

Incorporated cities are also empowered to make their own laws. The county laws and ordinances do not apply to the incorporated cities located within those counties

Is Black rock city incorporated? Probably have to get a county licence.

Wow... never even occured to me that there's a permit requirement for BRC.. but now that you've mentioned it, it seems like a "well, duh!" thing..

But how does it work? If you're a restaurant camp (is there such thing??) you need a food permit, but if you're doing "free grilled cheese sammiches at 12 on WEdnesday" thing, you don't?

Pants are cut.. one leg is a teensy bit wider than the other because I didn't measure when I painted the stars.. but it should be okay. Roomie found rats in the cat food (did I already talk about that? don't remember...) so the cat food has officially left the building. Rats are still in, though, since the studio door was closed when they were discovered, so they're hiding somewhere INSIDE. Yick.

You are probably right about that. Since we are not realy a bussiness and we are giving it away we may not need it. BUT willy nilly we are dealing with a government agency and they will want to have their fingers in any pie that they can see.

Health Regulations

This will not apply to most of you, but it's still good to know the rules. No one wants to see any communal kitchen get shut down or have problems. The Burning Man policy on playa kitchens is as follows: "There are no health regulations that will apply to a 'communal kitchen' as long as you are not feeding people other than those that are a part of this group. Giving food away, or trading for food is the same as a restaurant in the eyes of the health department, and permits and cooking standards will be enforced. Signs for the kitchen are understood to be an indicator of something larger than a kitchen for a pre-defined group of people. Exchanging money on the playa for use of the kitchen also causes suspicion. Make all financial arrangements before you arrive, and serve only those who are part of your camp, or close friends or family of the camp."

I’ve got well fed shine coated mice both field mice and house mice, they enjoy replenishing their larders with premium dog food ,... my house is over a hundred years old and has probably had mice it’s whole life there are express ways threw out. and the mice have been trained or genetically selected to recognize traps.

there ya go Xta........

In the eyes of the ORG and the state, even giving away coffee is considered serving food, so a permit is needed.

I have a vague foggy recollection something is needed for a bar too, so "the man" knows where to look for places possibly serving miners or drunks or wild wimmin or men of moral ill-repute

Sputnik Tea
2 c. tang (medium jar)
1 c. instant iced tea
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
Mix and keep dry.
To serve mix 2 tsp. to 1 cup hot water.
Add brandy for an extraterrestrial treat!

LOOk! SPUTNIK TEA! Heh.. this actually sounds like a mix that my family callls "Russian Tea"... is yummy added to hot orange juice when you have the sniffles...

Oh, and this recipe was brought to you by the lovely folks at Burning Man.com, on that same Communal Kitchen post.. BTW, I think it would be a good reading reference for us!

If I can make it to BM this year, I would like to join you all in the Eplaya Bar Camp as it sounds like a very fun group of people.

I can provide a solar hot water collection and storage system sufficient for approx. 20 showers a day. My main limitation is the amount of water that I can transport. I could provide more heat collection area if an additional water supply is identified. I am also looking into the water evaporation techniques that have been discussed in that forum. I believe that I have a solution that requires less space with a higher capacity, and will build a prototype in the next week or two to determine it’s capability. If it works as I expect, I will provide details, if it does not work, I will never mention it again!

I can bring a fair supply of tools with me, if there are special tools that are needed, let me know ahead of time and I will see what I can do. I am available if needed to help set up the camp ahead of time, and could also stay to help break it down. A two week stay would be no problem for me if it is needed. During the heat of the day I may take a siesta as the combination of heat and too many years behind a desk can take their toll. I am not sure what the age mix of your group is, but I am slightly on the wrong side of the half century mark, or as my niece tells me, the reason I have joints that ache is that I am halfway to dead.

I would need space for a full size pickup, small dome tent, and area for the shower, heat collection, and evaporator if those are desired. I am pretty quiet with a poor imagination, but looking for new experiences and friends to share them with.
