I have been lurking (and reading) in this site for a few weeks and have decided this is something I must do. I will have enough to purchase my ticket pretty soon. I am a little nervous about the gifting thing, but I have seen some good ideas and think I can come up with something to contribute. I am what you would call a virgin, (my mother would be so proud!) and would like to find a theme camp or group to join if possible. Let's see, I can sing or storytell, cook, wait tables, make coffee drinks and expressos, dance badly, and it just gets worse from there.

I am nervous and excited, somewhat concerned with the physical aspect of this endeavor, but I NEED to do this, the man is calling me.

I guess i should also add that I am over 40, female, and will be traveling from Houston.

Howdy everyone!

Still a virgin here, hopefully I can swing to BM soon. Reading all these posts just make me want to make the trip all the way from PA sooner then later! We plan on practicing geodesic domes this summer in the backyard so we don't fry on the playa.

There's not a thing wrong with being over forty - you are old enough to know better and young enough to ignore that fact :) I read thru the bar camp thread and am very interested. Is there more information available? I tried to access the backroom to read further but was blocked.

Hello, I am Chuck. I recently escaped the corporate world after far too many years. I have been searching for what I want to be when I grow up, if I ever grow up, and find myself being drawn very much to BM. I am not sure what the biggest draw for me is, but having family that homesteaded near Gerlach long before I was around does add some interest to the equation. The fact that they lived in that desert for about three years before they decided the land could not support them just amazes me. I think a week there would add more to my appreciation to what they must have experienced! I am hoping to make it to BRC this year, but still have a few anchors that may interfere. I hope to be there with you all, if I don't make it, I know it will be my loss.

dust, blood, entertwined DNA... is this the plot line for SAW IV ??
50 yr old virgin (playa that is) looking forward to becoming part of the Playa DNA.... will fly into SF and have rented a motorhome, plan to be there for the opening Sun night and stay till the Tues after it ends ..
not sure if I want to camp solo or try to find a camp that I can identify, contribute and evolve with.... I grew up near SF (Redwood City) and was a USFS Ranger based out of Austin Nv many yrs ago...

My boyfriend & I went to BM for the first time last year & are more than excited to return in 2006. I live in Stockton, CA and work as a number-cruncher for a local bookkeeping firm (*gag*). Burning Man was a wonderful experience & if I learned anything at all last year it was this: Get there while the sun is still up. We arrived during the white out on Monday and had a difficult first night.

Glad you finally made it. Do your homework in the First Timers Guide and enjoy spending some time hanging out and exploring the eplaya. There are good souls hanging around here that will help you out.

Hi,

My name is Dallas I'm from Atlanta, I played guitar for a living most of my life, but now I write software for money and play guitar for fun.

I've been thinking about coming to BM for years and this year a friend of mine decided to go, so I decided to take the plunge.

I'm having fun just researching/planning how we will get ourselfs and gear out there.
We're planning on flying into LV renting an RV and driving up.
I have a friend in LV who is going to let me ship gear(tents, water containers, shifting expanders, etc) out to store in his garage so we can fly in and pick it all up rather than try to find supplies in 1 day in LV.
He may be sorry before I'm done lol.

I plan on doing some camping locally in order to re-aquaint myself and see what sort of things I miss and want to make sure I have out there.

Art, music, freedom, fun, adventure, BM has all the things that my workaday life is missing.

I look forward to seeing you all out there and having the time of my life.

Welcome Home!!

Lots of people fly in and drive up to the playa. But I choose to drive every year, since I can structure my vacation around it. Coming from Kentucky, it makes the journey out there and back an equally wonderful part of the whole trip. I look forward to it every year and highly recommend it if you can afford the time off.

Hey ya'll, I just thought I'd say hello and leave a link to my radio.blog web page. I loved Burningman when I went in 1999 and have been into the culture ever since. I went last year and even though it didn't quite compare to 1999, I still had fun.

I'm planning on going for 2006 from wherever I end up living this summer (NYC? SF? LA?), and I hope to have a real good time.

I actually fell in love with the scene in 1998 when I went to my first couple of Burningman things ( the 1998 Decompression at the Maritime Hall and then the 1998 New Years Eve Anon Salon) where I saw "Lost at Last" at both of those parties and everything just sort of clicked for me at that time. Since I had been reading a lot of Terrance Mckenna and Robert Anton Wilson for the few years before finding Burningman, and it seemed that the world was meant to be like everything I felt, and more.

Then when I finally went to Black Rock City in 1999 for real, I was changed for life. No matter where I am in this reality, I will always reminisce about every moment I had during that week, especially wandering alone in the desert night, on all of my favorite things, drinking red wine, and finding myself in the coolest little spots where everyone was super nice to me. And how about that Satellite that burst through the atmosphere that night, early in the week. I was right outside the Discordian tent (feeling very, very good) and all of a sudden these glowing-green bouncing meteor-like lights went skipping across the night sky and the whole desert let out a huge scream of enjoyment.

For 2006 I hope there will be a little more true hip hop and abstract beats than there has been the last two times I've went (99, 05).

When I went to 'Decompression 03' in SF, the Dj's, the beat-boxers (the dude with the flute from Oakland), and the performances were some of the best urban flows I've seen at a Burningman thing besides the Cell Space events. In fact, It was nice to see Saul Williams perform in Golden Gate park after Burningman 05, I just wish it could of been 7 days in the desert with Saul William's poetry and the dj from Anti Pop Consortium spinning bad brains records. Who knows, maybe next year.

Hey Lowlandr, Glad to hear you plan to make it......Welcome Home!

In case you didn't know, LV to BRC is about a 12 or 13 Hr drive..One Way...

But if you really want an RV, it may be the closest place to rent one. Most of the local dealers won't rent to you for BM (Because it's almost impossible to get all of the playa dust cleaned up).

However you choose to make it, thought, you won't be dissapointed when you get there.....

greetings. cannot recall ever chiming in on a forum introduction list...however, as 2006 was christened to be a year of beginnings, and you're reading a blurb from a pure virgin burner-wannabe, it seems appropriate.

i suspect that - if i am in Black Rock City this year - i will be on a mission simply as an assistant/navigator/moral-supporter; sidekick if you will.

Hi everyone,

I’ve known about burningman for about 4 years, my best friend and I have been planning on coming for years but she now has a 1 year old son so she can’t make it for a few more years.

I’m meeting my friend in Canada, then we’re driving down. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to drive from Whistler?

Do you think the airlines will allow me to bring my fire poi and stick or do you think I’ll have to buy new ones. I don’t want them to think I’m a terrorist.

Any tips for a burningman virgin?

Hey Mystic..... that's quite a trip.

If you are talking Whistler, BC... It's a little over 19 hours one way.
If you fly into Reno,NV it's about 1 1/2 hrs each way.

I'd check with the airlines before trying to bring questionable stuff on, but if it's locked up and checked baggage, you may be OK.

Read all you can from the first timers guide. BRC, while wonderful, is still a desert, hostile environment. You'll want to pick up needed supplies before getting there.

Howdy all. My name is Joshua and this will be my first year attending burining man. I'm 29 and live in atlanta GA. I have to say i'm little nervous yet excieted about going tot his a buddy of mine has been 3 times and everytime he just gets better and better. I read the first timers guide. But I'm still not quite sure what to expect. I'm use to going to partys I've been in the whole rave/electronic music scene for the last 8 years. I'm really hoping this will journey will a quest to help find myself. Lately i've been kindering wandering around lost and just not quite sure about anything. This festivail is a much a spirtiual quest for me as it is a vaction. I am expecting to much? Well see. I run a small(very tiny) Film comapny named Ninja Lemur production. So far the only thing i done is film a couple DJ's and do photowork for them. I still have maintain a day job of watinging tables. But anyhoo I cant wait to meet everyone and look forward to hearinf from you all soon
