BTW, did anyone see the "Reno 911" episode last night on Comedy Central with the cops all dressed up in playa clothes (or lack of clothes) to make a sting? Pretty lame, they were sitting in a diner that looks suspiciously like Sierra Sid's - way too clean for the playa, but the costumes suggest somebody on the show has actually been there - or at least surfed the BM web. My brother thinks this is where Burning Man has "jumped the shark"
But then again, what does he know? He's never been to BM.

IF you are ever broke down in Reno, on the way home or on the way out....come to our shop...(PLEASE.....iam not trying to slut it out...just listing a burner friendly~honest auto repair experience...my husband will treat you with respect and fix your RV, truck car or weld your artcar bracket that broke at the last minute...

We'll be nice-n-friendly-off playa too, promise!
I don't know if it's right or wrong to mention that--but I would have LOVED to know this last year. We had a horrible nightmare, partially involving leaving our truck at the work ranch and then a $550 dollar tow to a random shop. The angry phone call from the propriator to pick it up because of Tania's sheer ugliness (his opinion only, she's a found art beauty) on top of the additional stresses of a five month drama and having to organize this with almost no money from the bay area. . . I hope that we have our baby in tip-top shape for the playa next burn, but I'm taking your name and number in case.
Good info can be pure gold.
not reno, but winnemucca.
in 1998 we pulled into winnemecca to gas up and water up for the dirt road stretch to the black rock city.
the gas station attendant asked:
"you guys going to burningman?"
we said "yup".
he says: "last year they pushed some guy in the fire there."......
we just laughed at the whole notion. and then replied:
"we thought they got 3 for the fire!"....
then the same town, but coming back.
we got the prime-rib-grade-"a"- eye-fuck from some fucking yeehaa cowboy all dressed in his *cboy* hat and shit kickers. --- and everything in between. (mainly bullshit). i mean, if we weren't cruising through winnemucca in a vehicle, he would have made his way across the street to *try* to kick some ass. complee and total dork.

being one of the only french living in Reno, b.m. was the only time I felt integrated in this country.
Why? Seriously. Do you think it has to do with Reno in generaal or the current bash-the-French mentality that's being driven in part by the current state of affairs here in the States. I'm curious.
