Last year I saw a DJ spinning at House of Lotus that was wearing a shirt that said "P is for Playa".

Somebody here uses "Get off my lawn, hippie!" in their signature. I stole it. Had great fun (and occasion for it) yelling it from the StarCastle a couple of times this year and once on Halloween.

The best T-Shirt I ever saw at BM was on this guy in Center Camp.
Orange T-shirt with the words "I'm With Stupid".
An arrow pointed to his dick.

PS: Only a burner since '03, so I'm not an old timer. Ha!

I'm going to try and get the ORG's attention without burning any bridges in the process. But this big pharma / porn sock puppet crap has went on long enough. Not to mention I'd like to see some activity by the admins and Spanky to fix some other things that have been talked about but never followed through. If the admins can't even enforce the most basic of rules.....and this is not a slam on Emily as she can only do so much, then this board will eventually die off. I don't want to see that happen.

unfortunately, the board users and board administrators have little to no overlap.
the positive side of that is that we don't have some power tripping tyrant making decisions. But the neglect is not completely benign.

It's a matter now of trying to get the sock puppet issue fixed without going overboard on admin control. Until the current crop of socks came up the board handled the Stop BM crap, it's handled the spat between Badger and I, and much, much more. I don't want to see this turn into an admin police state....so it's going to be interesting to find a balance. I think it's possible.....

It is a tough balance, and you always have to take in account this community is much different than most other boards. I dont want to see that happen either.

Something else that I keep thinking about is the debate about having moderators. It finally happened but it took how long to get there?

I've also went back and looked over the various arguments made in the past about having moderation, I've looked at 3Playa discussions on related topics (Don't freak I won't be posting over there), and with all that in mind I'm thinking about what's the best way to get attention higher up without making a bigger mess. I want the current stuff cleaned up, I don't want to be known as the one who made the board inhospitable by asking for intervention we don't want.

Anyway I'll shut up and get moving on what I had in mind.

I don't think you're actually going to quit BM after 06 k4. Listen to you! You got nothing but love for this red headed stepchild. You had me going there for a minute.

Thanks Bill, Fishy and KIV for all you do on eplaya. I don't know how it's supposed to be or could be, but speaking for my own chicken butt self, I've been having a total blast these last few months. Lots of other folks have too.

Hold it. Stop. Whoa.

I don't deserve credit for diddly around here. Don't want none, won't accept none. If you want to give credit to people for keeping this place functional you can start with people like Spectabillis. I'm not saying this to brown nose a moderator but that man has cooled me off and helped me think through several tense situations with a timely pm or two and that's on top of the other stuff he does. Or credit Fishy who's got much more strength especially with what she's going through than I'll ever have.

So with that I'm cluttering up Tisha's bar. I'm outta here for a bit.

Sorry! There's always risk in mucking up acknowledgements when you're green (or mostly white with a red tail and yellow feet). No disrespect intended. But I'm sure spectabillis and theCryptofishist would agree that you're a pretty kickass participant. Ok you don't want to hear that, okay. But you started with the I'm-outty-cause-the-org-is-buggered business and followed up with well-articulated constructive initiatives d'amor.

Anyway, my point, and it was an admittedly puny one but I think important, was this: to bail on BM because you're disgruntled with one or even several aspects of it is to deny you're own complexity, creativity and pleasure. You can re-approach the event in a new way and it will be a different event. Even if you make a million enemies, you can DON A MASK and it all changes for YOU.

It was better...

When you could drag a toilet on a skid at 35mph and nobody complained about the dust.

When all the art cars parked with each other.

Seeing the toiled go by at 35 mph being used was one of my favorite bm moments. And the newspaper was such a nice touch.

How to Deter Crime ....

heh heh.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates
for them.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their
weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and
city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for
discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order
that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked! up the cable TV again
only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how
hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the
Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes
into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat,
he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of
the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees
just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates
living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their
chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who
has lived in the tents for 1 year. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago
started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is
not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told ! all of the
inmates:
"It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too,
and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there
would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole,
only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Evil I'm not sure if this the right place for a post on Joe and I'm sure that I can't be considered an old timer but WTF.
Joe has put the illegals on notice that if he catches them in Maricopa county, they aren't going to get a free ride back home,,,they're going to jail.
Joe's M.O. has drawn a lot of attention and praise[also criticism]
People are tired of ricidivism and catch-and-release. Our prisions are a joke considered from the angle of a "deterrent"
I think that the ACLU has done a lot of good work, but the BS of coddling prisoners is way overboard. They can't get money to incarcerate prisoners
in nice surroundings so they give them early release.
I had a good friend who held up federal reserve banks,,,no others. He never used a gun so he never got shot. He was always guaranteed a nice cushy single federal cell with a TV
Our prisions need to be more of a deterrent.
Joe Arpio is showing the way.
Dan
I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

The thing that you dont hear about Sherrif Joe - is that he may save money on meals, and housing for inmates, but the county has lost hundreds of millions in lawsuits.

The county commisioners have asked repeatedly that the citizens not re-electhim for that reason, I believe that they (county commisioners) gave up on asking as he just kept getting elected. he ahas almost bankrupt the county a couple of times.
