I want to gift face/body painting - best paint types?
Hello!
I used to face paint years ago and loved it. I want to get started again, and have just started researching the best types of paints to use.
Does anyone have experience body or face painting at Burning Man? What are your favorite types of paints for the playa? I'd love to donate time to paint for Critical Tits, so I'm guessing I'll need something that's somewhat sweat-proof and smudge-resistant. Help please? I'll paint you for free! :)

ahoy , although not really sure about the experience painting at bm as i am a virgin burner, but im a strugling tattoo artist and since i can't really for health code resons gift tattooing at BM im going to be bringing henna with me , so i understand your issue , you might try checking into stage make up , i used to use some when doing like staged photography , here in texas and it gets pretty hot here so most make up melts away but allot of costume and magic shops if you ask them for a no smuge high endurance make up , id be willing to bet they'd have something in stock you could use , not 100% sure on the cost if it would be the most cost effective way out though been a while since i've priced anything like that , ohhh also try checking into latex body paint they have it in colors as well , wish i knew more about what holds up on the playa but sady do not but thats my 2 cents on the body coloring and such hope it helps

I do face painting and stumbled upon Snazaroo products. They are professional face/body paints. They are also 100% hypoallergenic and even have their own liability policy if you use only their products. I love how easy they are to use. And the containers last forever and ever. I wouldn't even dream of using anything else...

I've never used the snazzeroo, they used to be hard to find here.
If you're only doing face painting, you can probably afford to stick to the standard makeup types.
It can get real expensive real fast though if you're gifting a large number of people with body paint.
Below is the link to my page on the subject. It's not compeltely up to date, but it really covers the cheaper alternatives well.

Your face has some of the most sensitive skin on your body. Many, many people have allergic reactions to both acrylic or latex paints. Having a severe skin reaction out on the playa is not good. Snazaroo is completely hypoallergenic and Ive used it on hundreds of people with no reactions at all.

The medium size containers are like 13.00 each (ind colors), and each container will paint almost 200 full faces. There is a larger container too.

omg------I have absolutely no ties whatsoever with any company.
Take off your glasses my friend and look again.
I teach Kindergarten, and taught myself how to face paint. I spent all day last Saturday painting faces at a spring festival. I have seen rashes
on children from using acrylic paints on skin. I know of what I speak.
If you can find another company that makes the same guarantee, send me the link. Any time I get a chance I talk to professional face painters. And so far, the only paint any of them use is this product. I'm sure there are other products out there, just haven't run into painters that use them yet.
I will not apologize for endorsing a product which I believe is reasonably priced and safe to use. I make this same recommendation for any of my friends who ask. If you want to know more about me, and desire to feel confident I am not a spammer, go to my tribe profile and check me out for yourself:

These are the sorts fo things that keep a board civilized and more fun for everyone and I appreciate that it can be very difficult at times.

Apology accepted....no harm done.
Misunderstandings are bound to happen anywhere
even on the playa.

I apologize to you for getting my haunches up.

I'm not sure how much you are spending, or how much that other make up cost. So I will recommend wolfe brothers make up. I am in the special fx make up industry and can't get enough of the stuff. It is perfect for the playa though. It is very very light on the face. Not like normal make up that plugs all of your pores than causes problems. Awesome stuff. I will be out there this year doing full body makeup with my trusty airbrush. I use createx though when I am out there.

Steven, thanks for the link to your page - that's a great resource! One of my campmates was asking about this the other day, I'm definitely passing along the link.
Thanks pbmaniac and vixxen for the brand recommendations. Not really having any experience, it's impossible to tell from a web site or looking at a package to see what will work well.
