"just top her off sir. Ya all 550 gallons will be fine&
I was looking to fill up my water tank before I get to the playa, but I'm having a dickens of a time finding a place to fill up with potable water. I found an RV camp in Reno, but I was hoping to find some place closer. I thought about asking those nice people at the gas station in Gerlach, but it would suck to dive all the way up there and have them say no.
I purchased a 550 gallon water tank (got a great deal on it), but only need around 300 gallons for the week. I've searched the topics and can't seem to find anything on this.
Please help this poor lost sole?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

That's because it's not on the E-playa. It's here:Mr.? wrote: I've searched the topics and can't seem to find anything on this.

For thoses that may not know. The water in Pyramid lake taste's so salty that it can almost make you gag. Great to swim in in the summer though because the water is chest deep to about 50-75 feet from shore and the water is warm. (where we swim anyway) We went skinny dipp'n almost every weekend last Aug-Sept.
Oh and don't forget, you need to purchase a permit to get to the water.

Pyramid Lake water is OK, but you have to get used to that fine taste, first!! >giggles< (Think of it as, um, mineral water!! >Ewwwww...<)
The permit (as I remember) supports the local programs for the tribe - I recommend buying one even if you don't plan on using the lake. It goes for a damn good cause.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think that the lake is an option, but the link to water info on BM site is great.
FYI. I have a 100-psi water pump with a 14-nozzle high-pressure mister system. I'm renting scaffolding to build a shade structure that will house my water mister. The scaffolding will be perfect for hammocks, and with an angle on tie-wire I should be able to tarp the outside of the structure to keep a fair amount of dust and wind out of my tent. For some added cool water I’m bringing a copper coil tube to run the water through an ice chest pre-misting, which should help lower the water temperature. Add some carpet remnants for the floor and some overhead shade. Bada Bing Bada Boom it’s a camp fit for a penguin.
If anyone know where to pick up some cheap hammocks I’ll save you a spot.
If anyone see's a loop hole in this plan please let me know. I've been around these systems before and they produce tiny little drops of water close to a fog. I don't expect there to be a lot of dust in the tent... (ha ha good luck) but I'll do my best to keep it free of blowing dust.

As, so. Well if it doesn't have to be potable I may have an option for you. We contract with a water truck to deliver our 1,000 or so gallons we need each year to keep our grass alive, and share said delivery with other folk who need water. It costs cash as we've got to pay the vendor but drop me a line if you'd like to share some water with Shady Asylum and Snuggletown.

Ron[/quote]What kind of water do you get? Would I need to filter and treat it before putting it in my swamp cooler?
I bought a 3500CFM swamp cooler and have only barely figured out my game plan for powering it. I have a regional next weekend where I'll start to get a sense for how much water this thing is going to go through. I'm worried about how much weight I can haul.

Glad your looking for other options. Based on my experience and that of many others at the Gerlach gas station, if they do sell you water (which I doubt), you'll have to rob a bank to pay for it. There was a hair washing camp last year that provided shampoo etc and the wash, but you bring the water.
