Solar advice
Solar advice
I want to go solar, powering lights and stereo for my camp this year. What do I need? I know there are camping solar packages sold; are these a good deal ? Grateful for any advice. Rolfe

Alsto's catalog sells strings of lights, solar security lights, solar floodlights, et alia. I bought a string of 25 lights from them and those are on sale now for around $70.
Pricey, yes, but I figured they were a worthy investment especially when you consider the price of buying two or three deep cycles, an inverter, and a genny to juice up the batteries. Plus they're bigger lights than your standard Christmas lights and shed more illumination. The lights themselves are powered by a rock-shaped panel and can be switched on and off and set to steady-burn or blink. They also come with cute lil' covers in hummingbird and dragonfly shapes
Of course I wound up getting a horse trailer with a 110-volt system already in place, but I'm planning on getting a solar panel to trickle-charge the batteries and the illumination/power load is shared by the battery array as well as solar and kerosene lamps for my camp.
Edit: Ooh! Just remembered. I saw a five-piece solar spotlight set at my local Costco for $28. Four lights and a collection panel.

Paynie!!! Dude I can hook you up for $800 with 230kw of panels, 2 golf cart batteries and a shutoff controller. Hooking it all up,.... well I'm sure you can find someone.
I LOVE BEING ON SOLAR. I only turn on my genny for the micro and air con.... so like basically I haven't used it since BM.
