Well you would be right most of the time. I think a lot of the humidty gets trapped over on the coastal mountains?

Well, I'm thinking that there are two sources. 1--the fog, and that does get trapped. 2 --the Great Central Valley is a swamp, evn though it is it's in a Mediterannean climate. So it's a great place to grow rice and a great place to go bird watching in the winter, and a terrible place to put housing in low lieing areas. Cause when those levys go...

The Feds, the State. the experts all said no safe housing! The developers spread some money around and now the the houses spring up behind the Delta levee's on the most fertile land in the country. Even better now the courts have ruled if they fail the state is responsible for the cost! Developers just build and run.

A Sacramento flood is supposed to be worse than New Orleans with more lives and houses gone.

Preaching to the choir there, rockdad. Plus I've seen some of those places near teh Russian River...
And paving silicone valley--used to be a great fruit producing region. And orange county.
Not that Ag isn't problematic in California. Not enough water. But it seems to me in my silly way that it would be a good idea to grow as much as we can on arable land and build elsewhere.
Leaving plenty for wilderness too.

This is why you should vote for me as absolute fishtater in November.

Plenty of water in the North State for AG and the fishes if we did not export it to the desert they call Los Angeles. Now the Fishes in the Delta die and the breadbasket to the world does not have enough water either!
I have always been in favor of two Californias north and south and then shut off the Tap. (State Water project) those pools down south would make nice cactus planters

I think it would actually split in 3 north coast, south coast and rural.

But yeah, there's a whole lot of stuff that gets wasted in lifestyle issues. Like why do we all have lawns as if we were English landed gentry? Didn't we have a revolution 230 years ago rejecting that?

It is not about community! They are sustaining a unsustainable lifestyle at the expense of the Nor Cal environment and community.

They destroyed Owens valley and the Delta for they're own selfish needs.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure all the swimming pools, manacured lawns, car washes, etc. only account for about 1/10 the water consumption in the south. The rest is ag.

The best solution to this problem and the impending thread drift problem is to drink more beer and wine.

Even further back than that Owens Valley was bought up and they began draining it in the 1940's
(Movie Chinatown) but it is not whining and even old mistakes can be corrected and they are still trying to put the peripheral canal through too bypass the Delta completley which would kill it!

Right out my window I can see both the aqueducts going south if they only knew how many cars and dead bodies were in that water....

Oh honey, they may already have killed it, if you're following the smelt issue.
