First time burner... virgin?
hi all,
i joined eplaya and posted an introduction about myself about a week ago explaining that i'm looking to make the most of my first time burn, especially finding a collective that i could be a part of on the playa. i'm very interested in being part of a camp that provides a service of some sort, and being able to share my talents and gifts with the rest of the community through work. as a first timer, i'm also looking for a good support system to help me through my experience. rockdad responded to my post saying i'd be welcome with the eplaya bar, and that it was the home of v is for virgins. interestingly enough, the only other time i have been recommended a camp previously was from a very experienced burner who i know in the city and he also said v is for virgins. i find this very unusual that the only two times i have asked for advice on where to camp i'm provided the same response... i figured it must be a sign so i'm here to introduce myself and explore your threads.
i would be interested in any advice you may have for me... i am definitely interested in exploring v for virgins as a camp and i'm also super jazzed about the idea of helping out at the bar (if that is a possibility.) i have experience in foodservice and (actually) i was hoping to find a place where i could be involved specifically in customer service and hospitality... i love to help others, i am very good at explaining things and making other peoples experiences more enjoyable, whatever the situation may be.
anyway, enough of my jibberjabber. thanks to rockdad for the suggestion and thanks in advance for anyone who might be able to help.

Hey cat. Welcome to the bar. I wouldn't worry too much about experience in the service industry as being necessary. I think that's pretty low on the needs list. Xta-G or someone else may talk to you a bit more and send you the invite to the bar camp.
But, while you're here, have a drink.

It's going to be alright.

hi sputnik,
hahaha! i didn't think it was a requirement, but perhaps a perk... anyway, something i'm super interested since the work i do now gives me absolutley no exposure to the general public, something i actually crave on a regular basis. anyway, thanks for the message. would you recommend i contact xta-g?

Although experience does help with preparation and packing, I agree that it doesn't matter much once you're out there. I think the essence of playa is the improv, and virgins are often better at that then JOFs.sputnik wrote:I wouldn't worry too much about experience ...
To Virgins!

I think X is online today Sonickitty, so you can just post here and she'll see it.
Hi Sonic Cat! You would be welcome in the Bar Camp. I already sent you a friend invite on Tribe once you add me I will invite you into our backroom where you can introduce yourself and see all the fabulous stuff we are planning.

Cheers dawg, wabbit. One for me too.

sip
Ahh!
Mozy whips through once in a while. I'm always really psyched when he's here or been here. He and I started regularly hitting Tisha's at about the same time even tho my birthdate is about a year before his, so he feels like a brother from another mother. He's got 3 default jobs, so I think he's just too busy for hangabout barflies like us.
To Mozy!

AH, yess...... so nice to know that VCamp has such a good rep.. <grin>
We've merged into Bar Camp, but Sputnik has been plotting us all into the same area of the camp so our tentx/RVs/whatever are in close proximity so we have that little bit of extra contact/support if we feel the need... no longer a gated community, but men on leashes are still welcome <grin>
Bar Camp seems to be offering these services to the playa:
Booze
Socializing
Pole and Hoop Dancing
Crafting
.. have I missed anything?
Oh yeah..
Shenanigans
:)
Does that sound like a good fit for you?

Uhm.. I was actually thinking about suggesting a chip-in fund towards Mozy's fuel costs (and vehicle rental if he's getting a uHaul) since he's bringing so much BIG infrastructure. Is there anyone else doing the same level of hauling who should get the same?
Comments from Mr Mayor?
(oh, and did you see my stamp thread on Tribe, RD?)

Groovy.... :)
I'm so totally procrastinating... Landlord is showing people the house in a few hours, and I was supposed to be cleaning up, but instead I've been on here, and having long lazy baths.. I'm so bad :)
Why linking in a couple weeks, TITWI? Life crazy right now?
I should go clean for a bit, then I'll be back..

thanks!
hi everyone thanks for the warm welcome... sorry i had to slip off to a meeting for a minute but it looks like i need to order a drink, hmmm... well i'm a preference to vodka on a warm day, with lots of ice and a good mixer, on a cold night i'll settle for a nice tall pint of lager or a dry glass of red wine... is this too posh for the playa? how 'bout a wiskey, straight up, in a dirty glass... ;) now i feel like clint eastwood!
i'm going to cruise over to tribe now to see whats up with this "back room" thing... sounds very redlight district to me! just my style.

Re: thanks!
Best if it's your dirty glass that you carry from camp to camp and refill. And you might want to make sure that it has a lid so creeps aren't putting any nasty extras in.sonickitty wrote:how 'bout a wiskey, straight up, in a dirty glass... ;)
Fishy's a wet blankie, huh?
