Jet Fuel, anyone?

Post by Dustdevil » Mon May 29, 2006 11:30 pm

I have recently come into a quantity of JP8 military jet fuel. It will replace JetA. It is fresh and clean. If anyone is running a turbine powered flame effects project or has a need for some of this fuel, I would be happy to share some. I am in West Oakland. Bring your own container and contact me off list.

jet fuel also burns in any diesel powered vehicle.

Considering that normal gas is $3.50 a gallon, I imagine that higher octane would fetch even more. I would recommend you sell it at your local airport. If possible.

That is not exactly true. If the diesel engine is designed to run on JetA or JP8 it will work. Most automotive engines will not do well with JP8 due to the lack of lubricants. A turbine engine needs very little in the way of fuel lubricants where automotive injectors, pumps and control systems depend on the oils within diesel to keep those parts moving. Below is a link to some info on JP8. You will see that there are vehicles that use it, but they were built with that in mind.

As far as selling it at the airport, that is why I have it. First JP8 is not allowed for civilian jets. It contains a much higher amount of gasoline than JetA. Military and Civilan rules do not allow fuel to be put into an aircraft that has been taken from a defueling process. The cost of cleaning the fuel for reuse exceeds the cost of disposing it as toxic waste and buying new fuel. I am getting this from defueling operations of military aircraft as they have been paying large sums of $ to have it taken away and burned. I am doing the same thing with my jet powered flame effects device. The only difference is when I burn it people enjoy it and the gov is saving $200/ barrel.

oua re very right sir - I am used to dealing with all of the diesel powered international fire truks we have here, they are rated for diesel, kerosene, and jet fuels. Took it for granted that other cars would also be compatible.
later all - and see you on the playa

Hold on, wait a minute. What you're telling me is that somebody, somewhere, is getting paid 200$/barrel to burn stuff?

Life just isn't fair.

Who did that really insanely badass jet engine thing on the playa last year? I don't know exactly what it was called, other than the "holy fuck!" my campmates and I all shouted when we saw it go off ;-)

You know the project. Had jets firing in multiple different directions and bounced around on its tether like a bat outta hell...

Is this the piece you are refering to? A absolutely brilliant work of art. It is powered by propane.

Yes, that was it! Pendulum & Pendul-Up! Thanks for the link, and good luck finding someone that can make use of the jet fuel...
