The Lowly ZipStrip
The Lowly ZipStrip
Move over, "GOOP" thread...Time to give props to the underappreciated zipstrip. I just made a nifty patchwork top for my UFO by zipping scraps of reflectix (which should have its OWN thread!) to a PVC canopy, also held together by zips.
ZIP TIP#1- After zipping, clip your zips off as close to the coupler as you can, and cut off FLAT as opposed to ANGLED. When shortened, those little points are hard and sharp and can leave a nasty scratch.
ZIP TIP#2- Pay attention to the direction of fastening- The "lay" of the strip can help to hold materials flat.
ZIP TIP #3- Bring a pair of narrow-nosed clippers for cutting zips during structure demolition . Easier and safer than using a knife blade.
Okay....share the love. Tips? Tricks? Poems?

too thrifty
if you're somewhat of a crazy cheapskate like me you can reuse zipstrips...if cutting them off something and they are good enough to use again cut them off at the end of the tail (not the head side) so there's lots of length to reuse.
and if (like ...ahem...me again) you hate wasting any of a brand new one you need to take loose and redo you can slip the flat end of a micro screwdriver under the retaining tab and slide the tail out.
