Delivery services to/from the playa?

Post by Cory Meacham » Mon Jul 03, 2006 11:57 am

Howdy!

I'm trying to find a service or person I can pay to deliver things to and from the playa from San Diego for Burning Man this year. Any hints or tips or links out there? I've hauled allllll my stuff up and back twice now, and I'm hoping to make this year's trip more comfortable and lesiurely.

Many thanks.

You might try mailing will call to Reno. Or see if you can find someone in Reno you can send to. In the postcard thread there's a zipcode for the on playa post office, but I don't knwo how reliable that is. Or you can find someone who's going from San Diego ana has room. (check the regional lists, tribes, ect.) Gas money. Is someone renting a truck?

i always thought it a good idea of expanding the rideshare so people can use it for shipping too. this would incl. rail/trailer with lb/sq.ft numbers.

i guess people can always create a topic somewhere here and we could make it a sticky.

Shipping gets dodgy at best. Last year we needed to have an amplifier replaced and shipped in at the last minute, and even with all the correct shipping information it took until Thursday to get a Fedex overnight shipment that should have arrived on Monday.

I recommend hitting up the San Diego Burners tribe on tribe.net and posting there. You may find a camp that's already planning to rent a truck (or already has one), and would have plenty of room for your gear in exchange for a little help on fuel costs.

I don't have the specific info at hand, but it's through BRC. There's a special address in Gerlach (I want to say the ZIP is 89412) that basically is a routing address that gets loaded onto a truck and taken out to the playa. From there it gets to the BRC PO folks, who will make an attempt to deliver it if there's a camp name and address on it (though that adds an extra day). My campmate just kept hitting the BRC PO each day to check on it, since we were anxious to get that replacement. Check with your theme camp contact (once one is assigned) for more information.
