please don't call us the "BMorg2". we are the BORG2. we are reclaiming vocabulary, kinda like fag and other pejoratives reclaimed in the name of affirmation. we request to be named as we like to be named, or we will search your brain for the errant naming neurons (as per the corallary to thesis #6) and put things back in order ourselves . . .

i would suggest the real borg could also do well to simply reclaim the term borg too instead of continuing to fight it. really, it is a very funny term and reference. so much comedy can be had around it. comedy. remember?

re: the op.

i think there's 3 groups. (there're more, of course, but there are 3 relevant to this discussion).

the fact that only two keep getting brought up is part of the problem.

Not only is it offensive for you guys to label burners into cliques (what is this, high school?), it also shows a stunning ammount of elitism on your part that you'd spit on those who have a different conception of the world than you do, and a different conception of burning man. You really do think that your Frisco art mafia makes it all happen, don't you? Bring it on, and discover that the people you've lumped into the latter three categories are making a lot more than you think.

The thoughts you've just uttered go completely against the spirit of Burning Man for me, and if you want to stop coming because the people aren't living up to your standards, good riddance. But don't ask the masses to cater to the demands of you few.

. . .
first, i propose we toss the burner term. clearly we aren't one group and many of us respond to being called a burner in about the same manner we would be if called a hare krishna. a burner has always sounded like a cult member to me. i cringe everytime i hear it.
. . .
thoughts?

.......

i agree 100%. it's really irritating.
it does make me cringe.

thanks for bringing that up.
i am not a burner .

Controversy - Love to Be a Burner

Post by EricMagic » Thu Aug 11, 2005 7:28 pm

Controversy

Nice post by Jim, and many others who disagree with him and others who agree. However, I think the term, "Burner" is nice and something to be proud of, and I am definitely a Maker and also a Burner and much more.

Can we play a huge game over the Playa called "Guess what type of Burner I am?"

Please just don't ask the majority of us, the Burners to wear name tags. Maybe the LEOs should wear name tags, but I would flat out refuse.

Burners! Burners! Burn to Live, Passion to Live Like We Never Lived Before, Burn to Live, Burn to Go Beyond! lets chant this together in rhythm, and freak Jim out.

RPG!

Post by INSANEPOOKIE » Fri Jul 07, 2006 10:04 pm

This brings about an idea in my little head.

Time to make a Burning Man RPG 1.0a (Role Playing Game)!

BMRPG:

This game will follow in a semi traditional way using 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10 and 1d20 dice. Your character sheet is YOU! Yes you. Time to play.

Race choice(s):

Human - Currently this is the only choice. See version 2.0 for expanded options.

Classes:

Makers
Huggers
Gifters
Drinkers
Takers

Duel classing is available. Please be sure to read the detailed description of this adventurous route.

******* COMING SOON ********
Burning Man Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing game (BMMMORPG)

Group raids will be one of the biggest features. Help bring down villians such as Bush!

Why did you omit 12 sided die?

And what alignment are snugglers? Lawful good? Chatic neutral? Instead of levels it's years. and hit points are your drug tolerence.

I like it...

Snugglers might be a subclass of huggers or their very own.. we shall see.
Their alignment: hmm that's difficult to say without pondering it a bit longer.

As for the omit. That was in error. I thought that I had put the good ole 12er in there.

After I get past my first Burning Man experience perhaps I'll spend a decent chunk of time to type up an entire system for the BM RPG! For amusement purposes only (what else is there).

I think it's time to create a "How to Turn Anything into a Paper and Dice RPG for Dummies" book.

3 pages of this crap, at 3:30 in the a.m., and all I really got out of it was <b>"I AM NOT A BURNER"</b>
I like it. Can we have anonymous meetings on the playa?
You call it malt liquor, I call it breakfast.
