a life goal of sorts.

Post by LessThanEpsilon » Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:26 pm

My name is Matt - I am a 30 year old IT consultant/developer out of Atlanta, GA.

This year will be my first burn (yea yea, virgin burner I am), but I have endeavored to go since I first heard about Burning Man nearly 10 years ago from someone who went in 1997. When a friend came back with tales of last year's burn, I determined that this year I would finally commit myself to making the trek out to BRC, and absorbed as much of the information from this site as possible as far as preparations were concerned. I started planning months ago, which is either sad or just plain OCD-ish. Another friend/programmer colleague is also going with me, because sometimes programmers actually do look up from their computers and wish they were outdoors where there are prettier graphics. But only sometimes. We're actually headed to Las Vegas first and staying at some house belonging to some guy I don't know and never met, and then heading up to Reno/Gerlach/BRC. Assuming we make it in one piece, we'll see you guys there, and if we make it back in one piece, we might do it again. :)

No Matt, thats OCD-ish, Most of us start planning for the next year burn the day we get to the Playa. So your not early, your LATE....
Enjoy your trip out...... Leave the day to day shit back in the default world.
And just come with an OPEN MIND....p.s. don't worry to much about all the "gifting" stuff... Just smile and say Hi to everybody you see..... It's the best gift.........
I was Born OK the 1st Time....

Don't bring defaultia to Burning Man, take Burning Man to defaultia...... graidawg

Matt, Coming with an open mind to BM is the best advice ever....last year was my first year and I felt I couldn't look/wonder/experence enough. It is awesome but what I especially love is the spirit of everyone.
I wish I would have read the boards more last year to prepare myself but I went with an experienced burner which helped immensely.

Have a beautiful experience.

Oh, also:

The best gift I received was not material.

Not OCDish at all. Wer're not 100% ready for this burn, and we're already talking ideas for 2007.
