Looking for Art/Mutated Car

Post by burningexperience » Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:23 am

Greetings,

We of the Utopia Team are still looking for someone who has got a Art Car/Mutated Vehicle that is willing to drive past our base camp and Art Installation (called Utopia) to pick up some people from time to time or unload visitors who wish to see what we are showing at Burning Man this year. Here is a little teaser of what Utopia will be looking like:

“Utopia as a radical framework measuring a floor span of 60 meters, 15 meters high with a circle of 30 meters in radiation. in the middle its extreme dimensions also display some
fears. Being without limits it will never be captured completely. But hey, we can't give it all away!”

“Utopia constructed from beams with different lengths nailed beam by beam and lid out from the floor inside the 3 tree-trunk elements. Sun light will drop shadows inside of the structure
as at night the light comes from the structure itself, dropping its shadows in the surrounding area.”

“We chose beams as symbols of human race like each individual on our planet all dispose their unique trades. It will be the Earthly expression of our inner sense of being the immense form, being inviting to others. it will be the core, the centre to all others that seek warmth, it will serve as a potential to grow, opening all chakra's it will stimulate the purest form of inner sense.”

We will ofcourse reward your services, if you have any suggestions about that, please let us know 8)

If you need more information or if you are interested driving past our structure from time to time, you can alwyas contact us at [email protected]

Greetz

We are on a trip in space, will you join us?

So let me get this straight...

You want a tour bus to shuttle tourists to your hovel. But of course you will "reward your services" (read pay) for this.

That's just sad...

Yep. Totally agree with you Badger. Soliciting services for a specific camp or group of people is really a pretty sad thing. Actually, it's not much different that say trying to charter a limo to the event.

Yeah. It just smacks of encouraging tourism instead of participating. And then the not so sly offer of commerce for the service... :x

Not wanting to come off as "burnier than thou", but isn't this 180 degrees off what what Burning Man is trying to do here?

You guys want people to come? Invite them. Get off you butt and do something. Build your own mutant vehicle. You want something done right, do it yourself.

Perhaps I should come by with the "Dachs Gabe" and give them a full broadside. ;)

"I've got your art car right here!"

*Chuckle* At this rate I think FEAR is going to win out over HOPE. ;)
Hell, hope is an evil thing anyway. Why do you think they say it was a good thing Pandora closed the box before Hope got out too? ;)

Yeah, something doesn't seem right about this... It's one thing if we're out on the dust and the driver/owner of a mutant vehicle offers to make a trip out to an art installation with some passengers from the camp...

But trying to get drivers to sign on for the job to arrange tours of the piece, and offering compensation/rewards for signing up, seems a bit off.

Just make a wonderful piece of art - people will come see it.

On second thought, sure. We'll do it. We'll take you for ride.

It is a bit odd, but I wonder if it's more a matter of presentation style. I see nothing wrong with trying to convince wandering mutants to wander the direction of their camp or their installation, especially if they are located in spots we might not normally wander to or their workers need to haul a lot of stuff to/from. They could even encourage someone with a mutant vehicle to join their camp.

It's more the mention of reward and the lack of practical information (where any of this is located, why people need rides) that makes the request look odd to me.

Perhaps the OP can clarify what they're looking for.

Okay, maybe there's a fluency issue as well. Sure the english is better than my Walloon, but this could be the sort of thing that you simply don't learn in class.
And importing a mutant vehicle sounds like a headache and a half.

Still, "Team Utopia" sounds a little goofy to me. "Team Distopia" however--"We Will Put You in Harness and Work You To Death!"

Look kiddies, these people are coming from BELGIUM. Apparently it's on the other side of the Atlantic, somewhere in Europe. At least that's what I've heard.

They are bringing beer. Belgian beer. That's all you need to know.

Here's the thang: I know from personal experience that there are in fact some folks out in the desert who actually like to cart strangers around - not just their buddies - on their party float. It's what they do. One of those types (a 60-something lesbian who could easily kick all our asses) camps near me every year. She's never happier than when she's loaded up her giant-ATV-trailer-thingie to the gills with people who want a lift to the esplanade.

Let me repeat: they are bringing Belgian beer.

'nuff said.

So what kind of beer do Belgians brew? German Lager (spittooh!) or British Porter (yum!)
