BM RIdeshare access problem

Post by Scritch » Sun Jul 16, 2006 11:10 am

Well, I've been trying to access the sideshare page

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/r ... share.html

but it won't accept my username. I can log into e-playa just fine but nogo on the rideshare login. Is there a sparate place to register? My cookies are on. Tried in 4 different browsers, netscape, opera, firefox, IE

Any suggestions?

thanks

Same problem here, tried with new firefox and IE all updates. It's not that something isn't working from what I see but there isn't any page to register for a login, since I notice the sticky says the logins for rideshare and eplaya are 'different' but it doesn't go into detail.

Ah, at least I'm not alone.

Well then, we'll keep bumping it until someone notices

And you used the same password as the one to access the e-playa?

There isn't actually a login, it only thinks you need one. Most of the time if you click over to the calendar, and then go back to the rideshare (re-enter the webaddress), it thinks of you as logged in, and gets you the info.

Hm, same thing here. There's a bug report area somewhere on this site, I'll post this to there.

there have been multiple reports of problems with the rideshare, unfortunately its out of the domain of the eplaya peeps.

the org's recommendation is to contact [email protected] for problems.

ed: and sorry that i dont have a better answer.

sucks for me too

Yeah, Im having no luck with it either; keeps bascially saying that my login is invalid, when I established a login exclusively to access that portion of the site. I'd really like to be able to carpool with some folks. Any chance of this getting fixed?

unfortunatley, probably not in the time to be useful. i tested a similar bug in the past where it worked only if you went to it from certain pages. in other words, if you came from an ePlaya page to it, or from a burningman.com page it wouldnt work, but if you bookmarked the page and closed your browser and restarted it from that after clearing your cache and cookies - it worked. thats a cookie/validation problem so i wonder if people are still running into the same thing.

Pays not to have all of your eggs in one basket, eh, guys? This isn't the first time that board has had problems. Fortunately, there is a backup resource available. The Travel to Burning Man Board has been up and running without incident, aside from the ejection of the occasional troll or spammer, and is available for use by anybody looking for rides, riders or people to caravan with. You can find the rideshare section here.

Oh, one thing:

The ePlaya mods are not big on accepting the notion that alternative resources can and should exist, even when such resources are needed for the greater good of the community, and experience tells me to expect to see some flammage and backbiting following this post, much of it encouraged by those supposedly neutral moderators. I could dwell on the cognitive dissonance inherent in the notion of there being an "official" forum for an "anarchist" event, but let's just say that there's a good reason why the word ePlayatude exists. Don't believe everything you read, especially here. I reserve the right to respond to the usual abuse, but August being the beautiful month that it is, I probably won't even bother to read it. Silence doesn't always imply assent. Sometimes it just means that you have other things to do.

Wow. I have no grudge or agenda against your rideshare board, I've never commented on it before. If it is a good alternative, hey howdy the more the merrier. And the mods aren't admin, we aren't the folk who can actually do anything about technical difficulties. You are 100% correct, don't believe everything you read on the eplaya.

Best of luck all, have a safe and wonderful journey wherever and however you pull it together.
