battery power for artcar lights

Post by Ajax » Tue Jul 18, 2006 3:13 pm

Hello friends. Anybody know the best way to use the 2 car batteries to power our artcar blacklights + ropelights? Should I use 2 deep cell batteries run positive to positive and attach the inverter to the second battery, or do I need something more than that inbetween the two batteries? I'm referring to the batteries which actually power the car. Thanks.

If you're attaching the positive terminals directly, it doesn't matter which battery the inverter is hooked to. The danger with your setup is that you'll use more lights than your alternator can handle and drain both batteries completely such that you can't restart the car. I'd recommend either putting an isolator between the batteries and running all the lights off the second battery, or use a low voltage cutoff switch, or carry a portable jump starter with you just in case.

I used an isolator on my car, which was nice because I could leave the lights on when I shut the car off to wander and I never had to worry about not being able to restart.

How much wattage are you running on the lights? What type of car?
