Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You...
First timer cold feet and steemy anticipation-mocha flavored
My name is Bill Freeman. I am 42 years old, and I get around Ok most of the time. I have cerebral palsy, but can walk and stand and such just about fine.
I am coming because my own life has lead me to Burningman, but my ex didn't want to do such things. Things change.
I've been looking for the short list of things I need, but haven't found one. I'm going to go ahead and plan to drive out it seems. I'm thinking it'll be cool, but it worries me a bit that things like RV's are sold out already. My preference would be to fly and get a cab to the RV place. If ya'll know of any inside deals please share.
In the regular world I have served both the American Disability Association and the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom. The ADA as the CEO and the GLK as its Lord Chancellor. I am coming to Burningman to learn and participate.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Cheers,
-Bill

I'm here to
connect with the burner community. I haven't attended BM as of yet, but I plan to next summer. I have gone to events in Texas, and want to start checking out burns throughout the country.
I found out about this site from my friends Red and Moss, who have attended BM and set up camp @ a couple of Flipsides and Orfunner!
I personally love to hoola hoop, firedance with poi, frolick in the sand, dance to the beating of drums, run around in various stages of undress (or bound in rope body harness), and Love. Love You All Love the Earth Love the Moon Love the Sky Love Me Love the Wind Love the Stars Love the Sun....striving to "be" Love, and desiring to meet others on the same path.
It is always inspiring to be surrounded by Love. In all its many Forms.

YAWP!
Hi! I'm ansi and I live in the Santa Cruz area. Aside from doing computer stuff, I think I'm a hobbit - I'm most at home in bare feet in the garden and have an intense desire to have chickens. I make wine and goat cheese and the best chocolate chip cookies ever (so says my hubby, but he might be humoring me).
I first went to BM in '98 and then every year for 5 years after that. Stuff got in the way the last 3 years, but dammit, we are going this year. Nothing like a good Burning Man to get your head on straight again! (Boy do I need it.)
I'm not doing any big art this year or camping with a theme camp as I have in the past, but if you run into someone offering you french-press coffee and homemade cookies, that would be me.
See you all soon!
*hugs*

if you are a coffee person, check out EspressoCamp..we are a very low key theme camp...no fees no dues, no organization, bring all you own stuff. Spend a little time helping serve espresso.ansi wrote:Hi! I'm ansi and I live in the Santa Cruz area. year after year, my friends go to burning man and rage, then come back and talk about it endlessly...
my doubts are as follows:
1...thousands of people on the desert burning things????!!!!!! the desert has a very fragile ecosystem...and i don't care how clean you get it at the end of the festivities, it's the impact....see me, i say?????
2...my friend was raving about all the temples and structures built and then burned....outta curiosity, i asked what they were made of....PLY-WOOD!!!!!! do i need to say more????!!!!!!
3....i am an open-minded fun-loving person...i love to party and get my freak on...my suggestion???? how about every community celebrate Burning Man by staying in a local spot...have thousands of Burning Mans pop up all over the globe at the same time, so no one has to burn dirty gasoline to impact the desert as such....PLUS...instead of burning and a' looting, we all build sustainable things...like monuments and temples and pyramids made out of natural fibers that will last for generations to come and won't pollute the air????
Let me know your thoughts...
or better yet just go to burningman this year. If they are truly your friends and they tell you it is the best time they have had in their life, and they want you to join them next time so you can experience this amazing and wonderful thing, trust them. It's true, do it.
Did you even read anything or look at any of the pictures on the website or any of your friends pic from the event? Why were you not there with all your friends, on a road trip, if they truly are your friends? Was it because you were not invited? But alas you, I fear are nothing but a troll looking for attention. At worse, the angry spoiled child who would rather sit in the house mad and watching others through the livingroom window, outside having a blast without you, so you sit there and mope, walk around kicking chairs, rather than wiping that pout off of your face and running out joining in with the rest of us playing and frolicing in the desert. This is probably why you were not invited.
If not welcome home.

I'm new to these forums and a virgin to burning. I'm going this year (2006) though! I got a way there. I got my ticket. I got my friend a tick. I got HIS friend a ticket, that guy got me my plane ticket. Or...will...
Any way I don't have anything else...so I'm kinda freaked out of what I'll be able to do. I know I won't have any money the week before or week of. Hopefully there are friendly people with water?
Are there Camps dedicated to the Sciences?
Someone to discuss aether-wave and super-string theories with?
See a working magnetic fly-wheel?!
I don't know what to expect so I'll expect everything.
Anyway, I'm 21 and I live in a small ass town for now. I used to live in Wichita KS and that was all fun and such. So if anyone has any tips on how to find a camp PM me. I'm abit confused on the whole thing.
My friend Pat (whom I got a ticket for and for his friend) is trying to get into a Camp with a big 80 ft dome, with the Mirrors of Destiny (?), with M.A.S.S. No explanation needed on how cool that would be.
Anyway, I'm sure it will be fun.
Peace out, Brady Farrell
p.s. sign on name means Never Die...backwards...

All kidding aside, Welcome home.. Please read Everything you can, and then reread it.
I can't talk about Super-string theories with you but I can plan a sneak attack with Silly string.. Been know to do sneak attach with super soakers with ice water out on the playa.. It's a great place to have a water fight.
You have to be able to support you and your campmate..
Showing up on the playa hoping other will share water is not good enough.
If you run short thats one thing, but to not come ready to live in HARSH conditions is just plane Stupid.. Not trying to be a jerk, but thats the truth.
But you can get ready, you can plan ahead, you can do it...

get'cher water in Reno, then you can be the friendly folk with water. Seriously, take the survival guide seriously. It really sucks to be in the med tent during the burn.
I wish I could find the link about the guy who made the fantastic burning exploding bubbles, hydrogen I think. You popped them with a cattle prod and they would burst into flames (kinda like ravers?)

Oh, I want one. Perhaps I should post a list to Santa in the other thread?AntiM wrote:I wish I could find the link about the guy who made the fantastic burning exploding bubbles, hydrogen I think. You popped them with a cattle prod and they would burst into flames (kinda like ravers?)

Please, please post it if you find it. And I want a vortex ring generator too. Having trouble finding info on the one I want to make though (the 80' diameter kind). I figure if the guys who have that one are out there yet again this year, I'll just follow the smoke ring trail to them and ask them how they do it. I've got a hunch, But I'd like to not reinvent the wheel when it comes to pressurized flaming stuff.
And Eid Reven... ibdave isn't kidding about the water and being prepped properly. It's that whole "If you need my shirt I'll give it to you, but if you expect it, I'd eat it first" thing... Be prepped. Read up and plan. It will be worth it, trust me. And Welcome Home.

My name is Adam and I will be coming to my second Burning Man in 2006. I am originally from Belmont, CA and Santa Cruz but now I live in the utopian splendor that is Hartford, Connecticut.
I play the upright and electric basses and enjoy improvisatory music, jazz, contemporary music.
I have yet to look through the eplaya but if anybody reads this and knows where I can borrow an upright bass(since I can't bring mine from CT and am too scared of it getting damaged on the playa) or if you're another musician looking to play live fusion/breakbeat/improv/jazz then gimme a shout.
Also, I am looking for trained/reading musicians to do a performance of Terry Riley's "In C"
If you want to know more about my music go to www.myspace.com/jujutheband.
Smooches,
AK

Hi Everyone!
I am hoping to come to Burning Man for the first time this year. If all goes well, I will be able to see you all!
I first heard about Burning Man several years ago from some friends of mine. They have always talked about how great it is. This year I decided I am going to do my best to go. I found out about eplaya from the Burning Man group on myspace.com and they led me here because I am looking for anyone going from the TN area. Love to everyone!

I'm not sure if I ever posted in this thread before... I'm Trilo, this will be my third burn. I'm camping with Space Island, and am acting as camp coordinator this year - Space Island's first go as a registered theme camp.
Suckers, while you're raising what would seem to be valid issues, they're based on some mis-information. Not everything is burned, believe it or not. While there is plenty of fire, a lot of effort goes into protecting the playa surface. Crews spend quite some time after the event working to restore it to pristine condition - the way it was before anyone got there. I dare say that tougher measures are taken than at just about any other festival/gathering anywhere in the world. The AfterBurn Report is the annual report for the Burning Man project, which shows in some detail what kind of steps are being taken, and should hopefully address your concerns. As for events that are closer to major metro areas - there are plenty of smaller, regional events. You should consider the idea of coming out there with your friends one year - if even for just part of the week, so you can see what the hell it is all the fuss is about.
Adam, check the theme camp list... I want to say the camp you're looking for is called "Voted Best Camp" - they're setting up a space for live music and are bringing out gear. I don't know about an upright bass, but it's worth asking. Good luck!
Witchypoo - here's the link to the Tennessee-Arkansas Regional Group, or read through that theme camp list to see who else is from TN. I want to say there are a few, but one that I can recall offhand is called the Lake Lahontan Yacht Club

Hi new loves,
I would be Suzy, 'ello everyone. I live in California, and I love it here. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I have an indentical twin, named Jamie. Honestly, my lovely aunt gave me Jennifer Cox's "Around the World in Eighty Dates." to read on our trip to Napa. Great book, that was the first mentioning of Burning Man I'd heard of.
Then yesterday, I needed a light for my cigarette(Nasty habit, I know I'm trying to quit.) and I started talking to this guy for a minute. He mentioned Burning Man, just kind of in passing and we finished our talk and Hoyl cow, here I am on the Burning Man website.
Toodles,

Hello! I missed you! How are you! I haven't checked the forums for a while but I'm a month away from home!!! (I used to be luvchild but I forgot and signed up again as brattynat) My first year was 2001 and this will be burn #4. I missed home last year because I was getting married to my Ranger and this will be our belated honeymoon, and I missed 2003 due to brokeness thanks to that silly dotcom era of chaos, I was actually at my job interview for my current job that week. Such a cool place! My CEO actually apologized that I had to miss the burn that year for my interview! It's nice working somewhere where people don't think I'm in some kind of cult and ask more intelligent questions than if I have pictures of boobies. Anywhooo, looking for a bit more adventure this year, really regretted not having a bike in 2004 and I was really lame that year so we're getting out of our comfort zone and not joining a theme camp with all our friends so that we can spend more time meeting more people and not being a vegetable/camp mom in my little bubble. I figure my tent will just be where I sleep, no other need to be there otherwise. Going on adventures with our newbie while the hubby is out working, my brother is coming home with me too for the second time, he almost didn't make it, he broke his neck 3 weeks ago in Nicaragua and got off extremely lucky considering they didn't even know it was broken for 4 days. So it'll be a bit of a celebration in that sense too. I might bring my wedding dress, seeing as this years theme is hope and fear, I can't think of something that shows more hope and fear than a girl in her wedding dress! (although I suppose the fear is more on the groom's side!) and who says you can only wear that thing once!! I just want another excuse to wear it!
Love and hugs
Natalia

They call me Bruce
Mostly because that's my name. They also call me Chris and I have no idea why. I went to 2005 Burningman and I loved it. I felt like I came home and I can't wait to go back. As I started a new job it might not be this year. I have an idea I wanted to get sponsored for next years Burn and I wondered how you do that? :P
