Hi there from Frankfurt, Germany.
We (three people) are looking for playa bikes.
Since we will not be able to ride the bikes over from Germany, we are looking for three bikes that we can use on the playa. We will be there from late August 30th until early September 4th. If anybody should have extra bikes or should leave early and wants to leave their bikes behind, it would be a great help for us.
All ideas are welcome.

PLAYA BIKES
Playa Bikes needed here, too!
Hello, we are returning to BRC this year from the UK and are having a problem with bikes. We may or may not have a car to travel up to the desert in and would like very much to have bicyles to ride during the event. Our last visit to BM in 04 resulted in our bikes being nicked on the first day! We are hoping to change our Bicycle karma around (and bring bike locks!) this year and would like suggestions from others as to how to tackle our dilemma.
We remember in previous years reading about a group of Burners who refurbish bikes that can be "rented", via donation to the cycle charity, right on the playa.
You pay ahead of time and they deliver the bike for use on the Playa during Burning Man and they take it back at the end for re-cycling the next year.
This would be perfect for us, as we are travelling very light. Does anyone know who these bike people are?
An alternative to that would be if we could locate some bikes and find some kind burners to carry them up for us. Maybe even buying the bikes in Gerlash and hoping for a short ride into BRC. For this we would be very greatful and want to thank you personally somehow. We need two bikes.
We are open to any suggestions and possible solutions to our problem. We will be flying to SFO and coming up to BRC on Wednesday August 30!
Thanking you in advance. xxx

I know that this year that I saw people selling bikes in Gerlach when Burningman started. They looked like they only had about 40 or 50 bikes, so if you got there earily, you might get one. I imagine, on the way out of Burningman, the same people would be more than happy to take that bike off your hands.

For those who live a long way away (I'm included)
or out of the country hopefully this will help.
Search this board for Da Rat in Sparks NV.
or hopefully this works.

This nice person rebuilts bikes and rents to burners for the event.
(at least last year)
I think you now have to haul and he wants them back so they don't
become post event moop on the playa.

Word is (that's rumor folks!) that they buy back and pull extra bikes off the playa and have quite the little business going. I think I was in and out multiple times and the supply didn't seem to diminish.MrMullen wrote:I know that this year that I saw people selling bikes in Gerlach when Burningman started. There is someone in reno (a burner) who has a bike rental thing going to. Do some searches on bike or bikes and see what you can find.

From Today's JRS:
DA RAT'S BIKES FOR FARAWAY BURNERS - EARLY RESERVATIONS NOW!
Da Rat is at it again! We'll let him tell ya: "Rat's Bikes '06 is open
for early reservation for Burners who have gotten bikes from me at least
two times before, and for any Burners coming in from another country.
For everyone else, I'll open up May 1st, as usual.
As a bonus, and to help a little with the lack of lighting on some playa
bikes, I will be providing 9 or 10 glowsticks free with every bike.
{You'll still need a light to see where you're going... these are to
help others see you}
In all other aspects -price, location and such - nothing else has
changed from prior years. I will provide complete details to anyone who
contacts me at: [email protected]
I just rented my bike at this place. They are $75 for the week.
