encouragement? absolution? If you need reason for restraint I'll give you this:

Strikes me as a little strange that you were riding the Dust Bugger for posting a picture of some kid with Down's syndrome, calling his humor cruel and immature on one thread, and then ridiculing Itze in another. The kid with Down's wasn't directly insulted, but Itze was.

I have to agree her post was... well.. a little "flowery". But the weird thing is, the big BM is so huge and diverse, she'll probably easily find her own little niche on one side of the spectrum. Yep. We're all just little chunks of undigested corn and meat in the big BM scheme of things.
In fact the kid was directly insulted, as were his parents and the Special Olympics. Furthermore, the kid was defenseless. Itzy is not defenseless.

Nobody in my opinion, should be allowed to enter BRC without some form of social preparation. Itzy is now prepared for the rougher aspects of the Larry's Great Experiment. And we are prepared for her.

And jeez, I hooked her up with Fire Elf. Don't I get any credit for that?

How were the parents of the kid with Downs directed to the Eplaya?

Actually I have to admit there is a certain symmetry to getting Itze and the Elf together. They both have a similar exuberant wordiness.... Elf's cryptic to her floweriness?

First of all, let's make it clear that EDB agreed that the joke was in poor taste. This post is not to further criticise him.

The boy's parents weren't directed to the playa. The insult to them lies in the simple fact that their child and his image were publicly ridiculed.

It doesn't matter if they were unaware of the post. This is about human dignity and the protected status that all children deserve.

Only his joke was in poor taste I see.

I'm just talking about who actually feels the sting.... and what the intent is.
You don't really need me as your social conscience or anything! I thought the question you implied and your previous post seemed a bit at odds.

And it's true, Itze may be a little better prepared for the full spectrum experience that BM is.

I guess my point is that it's never okay to post photos of children in humiliating contexts. The issue goes beyond whether a sting is felt by anyone. On a wider tack, Special Olympics has allowed thousands of people to experience dignity and develop self-discipline who otherwise might languish in institutions.

As for Itz, she chose to post what she did and presumably is an adult. I wasn't the only one who gave her a hard time, and we all heartily welcomed her into the fold when she began to write more accessible prose.

Thanks for giving the matter so much thought. I really mean that.

And for the record, unless you're a monkey, jerking off in front of school girls just isn't funny.
