Who Wrote That Prayer in Your Head?

Is it just me or is anyone else sick to fucking death of having pseudo religious bigots of every fucking shape and size the world over dictate what happens on this fucking planet? Now I am not trying to be funny but those people calling for a Jihad and the death of 'Crusaders' and 'Zionists' are not in any way true to their faith and neither by the same token is Bush or Blair rallying their support by claiming some affiliation with a Western notion of God. Let's face it, be it a Church or a Mosque, both are supposed to be places of peace, worship and serenity, neither should be the home of a call to arms or murder of innocents. Believe me when I say I think the governments of the UK and America were so wrong over Iraq, wrong in the main part not to support the people's revolution we engendered during the first Gulf War, rather leaving those people to die at the hands of Saddam using American firepower. It's no wonder they don't trust the occupying forces, we left them to be massacred in the early nineties. Not to mention the massive human rights abuses perpetrated it seems daily by the world's greatest 'democracy' America. However, aside from all of that what the fuck is all this bullshit religious division amongst the tribes of Iraq all about, 'ethnic cleansing' is going on over there on a massive scale right now, as you are reading this. Why? Because one guy says, 'you don't believe in my God, you must die', what the fuck is that? Why on earth can't people just get over religion? It's just so insane to kill anyone because they say my God's bigger than your God. Also, a lot of these cats are very far from religious anyways, the Taliban for example are plainly people of an extremely right wing disposition who would like to see a militant state in place where women haven’t even the right to an education, so why the hell is it all wrapped up in religion? In fact all they are going to ultimately achieve is to absolutely destroy any understanding of the religion of Islam and cause widespread oppression and distrust of the ordinary Muslim in the West. Their biggest crime will ultimately be against the very religion they claim to be fighting for, it's like wrapping yourself in a flag but somehow ten times worse. Of course, it's not one sided, no-one is getting off the hook, quite what the fuck Israel thinks it is doing at the moment tearing apart the civilian infrastructure of The Lebanon and killing / maiming innocent civilians in the process is anyone's guess. As for North Korea and China, Jesus Christ, those guys are fucking terrifying. That’s why I'd like to ask this question of everyone on the planet, 'who wrote that prayer in your head', because it certainly wasn't you pal. Religion is social conditioning, what Plato called the 'noble lie’; it is a political tool to maintain order, only now it's inverted; now it is tearing the whole shithouse down. I was only ever convinced by the theology of protest, the notion that if you rail against God and show the love for humanity he / she / it so plainly fails to deliver on you are being a vessel for he / she / it's love. Another question, if there really is a Jihad going on why the hell aren't we seeing the old biddies of Winchester Cathedral shooting AK47s into the sky? I'm so fucking sick of living at the behest of these cunts the world over. The Neo-Con Christian right in America is no fucking better, what with their "Creation Museums' and backward fucking ideas on everything from evolution to abortion to stem cell research. I mean fuck it all, wherever you stand on it you have to admit the far reaches of biological science and nanotechnology are incredible and could well save lives from some seriously debilitating diseases. Does your average god-fearing Republican believe this? Do these cats blowing themselves to bits on buses and shit want this to happen? Wouldn't they like many others hope for a cure for Aids or Alzheimer’s? No patently not, these fucking people on both sides of the equation would rather drag everyone down with them in their quest to dominate the world's most precious resources. It's not religion, it's politics, it always was, and at least we could start by describing it as such. We are all being fucked by this, every person who believes in a secular society based upon the declaration of human rights, all of us. That brings me back to Plato who also pointed out that people too smart to engage in politics had to suffer the world being run by people more stupid than them. Don't get me wrong, America is an aggressor, they pulled out of the 1972 ABM treaty to pursue NMD and started the new arms race, they are responsible for that shit, they also started a pre-emptive war for no other reason than oil, the fucking WMD of Iraq were never there. I have massive sympathy with anyone whose family was gunned down by Black Hawks, I read out the names of dead Iraqi children in Trafalgar Square. But it's no good just blaming our goverments. Blame religion, blame the mindless social conditioning of the masses for the whole sorry state of affairs this world is in sure, but if you are of a mind to follow the doctrine of your leaders then don't blame the innocent civilian population of any country for the actions of their governments, churches, radicals, militants because to do so is to play out a tragedy that could become Armageddon. Maybe it's time for those people who don't involve themselves in religion or politics to stand up and do something about it. After reading the paper today I just had to get this shit off my chest.

The Israelis know quite well that it isn't in their interest to kill civilians, and Hezbollah knows just as well that they gain support when Israelis end up doing that.

Perhaps you should ask what the Lebanese thought they were doing by permitting Hezbollah to control South Lebanon and Beirut. And while your reading names in Trafalgar Square (to throngs of ardent followers, I'm certain) would you mind adding those of the civilians of northern Israel who have had hundreds of inaccurate (non-American made) missiles raining down on them? That statement scares the holy fucking hell out of me. If you do nothing they intend to subjugate the world. If you rise up and fight back, you get slapped with the crusader, infidel label, you're intolerant, closed minded, blah, blah, blah. Talk about damned if you do, damned if you don't....and every possible solution digs you deeper into the morass....

I have no problem with co-existance. Tolerance to a point is not an issue. But...your freedom ends where mine begins, force your religion on me and resistance is automatic. This issue is actually modifying my normally hardcore democratic preferences to support Republicans, or any group that covertly or overtly supports keeping their world domination plan in check. And after reading that first line again if a country was to bomb those religious leaders back to the stone age...I find myself thinking it might be for the best.

It's a shame it has to be this way.

I believe that any time one power must justify their actions, they will always wave the emotional banner to their own people who will follow a religious cause or even a national cause - but would be hesitant to sacrifice and die to make their leaders and upper classes richer.

Most of the world's actrocities over the millenia are not really about "God", although they have been blamed on such. If you follow the scent of the money, there are usually economic reasons for all of the above.

I am not a history scholar, so I have a limited ability to defend this premise, but it makes sense to me in a visceral way.

This went on for centuries. When enough people get tired of killing, reason has a chance.
Reason takes a back seat to violence far too often.

Sure it's apathy, but it beats banging you head on a wall.

Your actions at Trafalgar are in the right direction. Keep in mind that Trafalgar Square is a monument to war and defeat of an enemy.

This is not the least bit true. Government has never had more control over us than we have over ourselves.

Government is not an immovable object, however an intelligent and determined individual is an irresistable force. I have caused government to bend to my will on numerous occasions. It was only when I turned my attention elsewhere that they ceased to respond and to act.

An example of how this could work for others would be this: If you don't like oil corporations making so much money, buy shares of their stock. That way YOU make the money and YOU vote on corporate policy.

On a local level, if you want city council to improve the streets and sidewalks in your neighborhood, have a meeting with your neighbors and delegate a representative to bend your council member's ear. If you really want to make things happen, take up a collection and hire a lobbyist and a publicist, as well as an attorney.

That's how it works and it does work. There's really no reason why it should work any other way. And it never has.

So cheer up.
