Just for a second....

What would you do? Where would you go? What naughtiness would you get up to?

Stopping time was a recurring fantasy of mine when I was little. I always imagined that the first thing I would do would be to go to a doughnut shop and eat as many as I could.

Now I think I would just take a nap.

Well, there is that, but I would think that would only go so far. Also, are we talking one literal second? (one one thousand) And only once, or once a day, what's the parameter? If I only had one second one time, I'd have to plot and plan. Can I use other people in my schemes? Ten people can do a hell of a lot more in one second than one.

No one specific. Just whoever happens to be around. But a cop or someone wearing a suit would work best! (I'm juvenile!)

Read "The Fermata" by Nicholson Baker, for a smart, funny, smutty answer to your question.

Recurring fantasy of mine, too, but it's so supreme that I temper it with various conditions. I age twice as fast while time is stopped? I can only do it once a day? Week? Longer? I can't do it if anyone is actively looking at me (to prevent weirdness when time starts again and I'm not in the same position, or there at all)?

In the end, I'm happy to not have the power. My voyeur tendencies would get the better of me, but even worse, I'd mostly use it as the world's best snooze button.

I think I would definitely have to sneak up on people while they're home and rearrange the furniture. Heh. requires supreme sneakiness.

Exactly!!! That's why we need ten of us. Just imagine if half a dozen or a dozen had the same power. We could run in with our baby diaper palettes and 4" paint brushes, our specially filled clown shoes, and all the extra party favors we would want to do the job right.

Well see, here's the thing. If you had such power, and if you used it regularly, you'd end up growing old and dying before everyone around you. Say you stopped time for everyone but you for about a week a month. At the end of 12 months you've aged 12 weeks more than everyone around you. Ug.

Can you tell I've played the, "if you could have any one super-power," game too many times? :)

hell Ron why you need to stop time for a week at a time?

fifteen minutes is the max id need, to walk into a bank vault and load up on dough,

or 5 seconds to drop that gad damn little ball into the right slot on the roulette table.

or 10 seconds to peek in the waitresses blouse-

later all
