I don't look at it so much joining their camp as doing volunteer work inside the ice room.....

If you're in the shade, well-hydrated, and you're resting or napping, you'll MUCH less likely to get heatstroke than wandering around the playa on foot at 12:00 noon (that's a time, not a location). You'll notice that the saner burners disappear from the playa prescence before midday, and re-appear a few hours later.

If you are hydrated, ate well, healthy, then your chances of heatstroke on the playa during BM are minimal, no matter what time of day it is. If you are not from the desert, then don't do the following. If you are drunk, have recreational drugs in you, haven't had water since the day before yesterday, are unhealthy, over exert yourself, and are just basically fucking stupid, then you may get heatstroke. Doubtful though. I worked my ass off outside all day today. About 111-115 or so. Digging post holes and replacing signs, looking for lost Belgians. I ain't dead.

Virgin...I don't do well in the heat at all either. Last year, I had a camelback whenever I was out of camp, and I'd come back to camp between 1-4ish. I hung out in our little bitty dome tent. We hung a battery powered little fan from the top. I opened the door (downwind), misted myself, and gave my feet a sponge bath every afternoon. Sucked on a few ice chips from the cooler. Delightful. :)

Rebi Rick, I'm planning on wandering out to your homestead sunday morn. If anyone near the SFV wants to ride along, send a message.

I busted my driveshaft 3 times. This is a shakedown ride to qualify the repairs before I drive to Burning Man.
NFW I'm going to miss BM

197. Dome tents and most camping tents have very poor ventilation/insulation. You are likely to roast inside. Bring a ventilated, wind-resistant shade structure.

helitack, you seem pretty hard core. I'm a little pussy in heat. Always have been. When I was a child, I used to sleep with half my body down between the cool wall and bed to feel the air conditioning better. Also, if we were out on a boat somewhere... I was known to just randomly jump into the water cause I was so hot. And that's while I was in St. Louis. Now I'm used to the brisk mountains.

Looks like I'll just have to hike up them panties...

So what your saying is most likely I'll be sleeping under a shade structure in the day, and pretty much just using my tent for privite activities?

As far as tents... I'm having a really hard time finding a tent without all that mesh you cant zip up. And clues?

198(a) If it's rattling and coming towards you, shoot it.

198(b) If it's rattling and going away from you, you shouldn't have gotten out of it with it running.

Well, I guess I blew it on the cruise control one. I escorted motorhome caravans to Mex and Alaska for 10 years. I saw a few dumb things.
They usually involved people who forgot to close the dump valves. They got a big surprise the next time that they twisted off the cap to connect the dump hose.

199. Don't laugh at Heli when he hands YOU the shovel at 0300 this fine morning after you woke him up and he tells you to dig YOURSELF out of the ditch right outside the boundary when YOU already lied to him that there was a serious injury and there was not since YOU were by yourself and fucked up by missing the curve and never, never, never laugh again when Heli tells you that you may use the pay telephone, not his home phone, to call the rental car company and explain YOUR situation and the fact that you are very lucky that it was only the car that was injured because he might tell you to go fuck yourself and call the Sheriff because of that odor of burning rope that wafts from the interior of your car.
