Work on the Playa

Post by LeftyGOAT » Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:10 pm

We will need to design and create while we are in BRC. This will be our first burn so we have no idea what to expect. We usually hide out away from cell phones and TV when we have creative work to do. Are we naive to think we can focus on real world work for a few hours over the week? Our question is will the environment result in us creating our best work ever, or will we be so stimulated that we will not even remember we had work to do until we get home on Monday night?

I don't think anyone can answer that except yourselves after the burn is over. It can go either way. The only thing to consider is if your work absolutely must be done by a certain date that ends up being the end of the week at the burn, than you run a big risk of not getting it done. On the other hand, things may align and your creativity is on overdrive and it all falls into place. If I wasn't deep into someone else's experiance or project (enjoying it I mean) than I was planning for the next year and how to incorporate things I saw into my everyday life back home. I'm a pretty focused worker and there's no way I would have met a deadline for anything out there.

Goodluck,
We0ne

P.S Curious what you need to create while your at BM?

We will be writing and designing political mail (someone has to create the stuff most voters throw in the trash). I know, not that interesting but we love what we do. We will be up agents some hard deadlines the week we get back. We get so caught up in the day-to-day work of our business that it is hard to be creative at the office. So off to BM for some peace and quiet and sanity.

Thanks for the reply, weOne. I here what you are saying, like most things in life, we will just have to find out for ourselves.

So thanks for wishing us good luck and in the process we hope to find out why so many people go back to Burning Man year after year.

Sure, it's the perfect place to design political mail. Can't think of anything as apolitical as Burning Man.

This sounds like the perfect opportunity to resurrect the Goat Rodeo.

Lefty, here is a visual aid so you can have context on this quality playa experience.

This would have to be the perfect campaign HQ for your homework.

Hmmm....

Can you stay focused if, say, a 30 foot cockroach drives by your front door and people jump off and entice you to ride the wild roach (libations in hand?)

Those are the kind of challenges you face.

the whole damn thing sounds like commerce and evil commerce too.

I think there's a TROLL! on Tribe we can feed them to. He'll eat teh bones, so there's not really a moop factor.

We are going to burning man to be enticed to "go for a ride on a 30 foot wild roach with libations in hand". We get the answer, we will not plan on getting too much done.

We are too new to your playground to get the insults the rest of you are throwing our way. I am not sure that I would call most of these replies welcoming. I thought BRC was world renowned for its diversity and acceptance?

BRC is in its way a meritocracy. The merit you have to prove is that you can survive. And hopefully pull something gracefull and amazing out of your butt while you do it. We're not much on predudice based on race, nationality, sexuality, gender, age, dress but we (much as I don't like to own it I do belong in this catagory) don't tend to like prima donnas and princesses and drama queens (hey why are all these terms female.) Some of us tend to guard what we find as the personally pertinent boundaries ferociously.
Once you're on playa, I think you'll find that we are different than we seem to be on line.

Nope. You must be thinking of that fucking Rainbow Gathering thing.

I wouldn't expect you'll be anywhere near as productive as you think you can be. There are 35,000 or more distractions out there at any given moment. If you really need to get the work done, you may want to come a day later and knock it out at home before you depart.

they are a quick read, and not that interesting, but at least you can turn it around and get a totally different point of view.

Lefty, you're welcome here even if you may not feel like it.

Don't know why you're hitting the playa if you have to work. Kind of like going on vacation and dragging your work with you. The Cause will still be there when you get back. I would leave the work at home. You only live once.

November's elections have been canceled for national security reasons. The people who run the nation are insecure about how you might vote.

Our president has given himself the power to re-elect himself depsite the 2-term limit in the Constitution - for national security reasons.
