Burning Man 2006 happenings on Google Maps

Post by nervusvagus » Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:19 am

Hi folks,

I thought I should post this here as well:

I launched a listing site for BM 2006 at http://burningman.beatmaps.com/

Check it out and see if you have any of the categories to add. Listing is pretty easy and once an address is typed, it automatically places the pin on the location, which you can custom tune as well..

Let me know if you have any questions.

Very very cool! :)

I wonder if someone can do the same with the list of all the theme camp/villages placements? :)

theme camp/villages placements

Post by nervusvagus » Tue Aug 01, 2006 11:44 am

thank you. theme camp/villages are all on there actually! but there's 400 of them so it's kind of tough getting them all there...

anyone who registers (which i kept as simple as possible) can add anything to the site. Camps, people, lost and found, even playa memories can be added with photos and links.

This is excellent! If only there was a live version available via wi-fi linkup on the playa

Seriously - it's a fantastic headstart on finding out where/when everything's happening.

Nice one!

Umm... Isn't this the 2003 Google sattelite photo of BurningMan (about a week or two before the event started)? I think 2004 and 2005 were in the same location, but this year's location was moved NE a mile or so and rotated a little.

By the way, you can see two other BurningMan sites (from years prior) on the map to the SW.

true but everything at brc still happens in reference to the man. :) I think as long as the distance between the man and Esplanade is correct and streets are named correctly the coordinates of BRC in the default world doesn't matter much :) even if the city rotated counterclockwise a bit.

The only major problem was that beatmaps could not suport gps enabled photography... but not many people shoot gps tagged photos anyway.
