Gracias ED
gotta make it to expresso camp, just to say hi.
Joel... I remember how you were feeling last year about this time as everyone else was prepping to make the trip. And this year, the fact that you can say something like this makes me grin real big for you. I know the anticipation you're feeling must be double at least.

Gerlach webcam?? BAH!!! This year you'll see it again with your own eyes!

yeah, i was REALLY envious seeing everyone drive through Gerlach...

i imagine i will want to have a beer before the playa, stop by the office, see if Joy is workign there, get back in the car and beat feet to the desert about 20 minutes away.

just the drive north of pyramid lake is worth a few years wait, i guess.

Why am I having difficulty seeing any difference between those two lines?? Is my mind inserting something to create logic, where it is in reality missing?

It's going fine X.

But now, I've got this idea for a large person mounted sculpture like the mantis, but a man with mantits. They could meet together somewhere and joust or something.

Oooohhhhh... you so rock :)

White milk... prob 1% (I can't remember, is that a common thing in the US, or a weird Canadian innovation?)... a gallon/4L jug, please :)

On the topic of cold food staying cold.. once Duck and I figure out our grocery list for our Thai dinner, would you be interested in picking up the perishable things? I'm mostly worried about the frozen chicken.. I'm so NOT a cook, partly because I'm scared of poor food handling since I don't know any better, and then giving food poisoning the people sharing my meal... and I'm not sure where Heather and I will be stopping for groceries on the drive down, so I don't feel confident about planning for safe chicken hauling..

Oh, and I'd get money to you for this, of course... :)

Xta - if you need, I'm glad to bring in frozen chicken for you - I bring a big "freezer" dry ice chest. Just let me know how much & we can settle up out there.

I had been pondering this myself, as I had been planning on bringing a fair bit of raw chicken. Here was my plan (I was gonna have this out there with me but if I don't hafta jam it in, then super!!).
First, skinless boneless breast only. Next, julienne (large strips) and season individual batches. Some for teriyaki, some for thai curry, some for barbecue, like that. Still raw, but marinating, the freezer bags go into the freezer and frozen solid. Next is one of those 5 day coolers (I had one last year, someone pitched it!?!) Fill with frozen chick, top with dry ice, seal with duct tape. Be sure to pull out what's needed enough in advance cuz if it's kept sealed and in the shade, you'll still have frozen chicken at the end of a week.

Thanks for the offer, Mojo! Will let you know if that's needed.. I think Shelly is the closest-stationed person to the Playa (am I wrong?) so I'm not sure how many of these requests she's getting :)

Ducky, if we have someone else bring in frozen breasts, will there be any great hassle in treating them in a non-pre-marinated fashion for the curry night?

Oh, and if you didn't get my message whereever I left it for you, I lost that link to thai food you sent.. can you pass it my way again?

Im bringing chicken for pita lunch...but this is where I going on the idea...Im going to pre-cook the poison chicken! LOL then it will be marinating in a sesoning juice to keep moist then throw in just ice chest(as this is a monday meal)
And TiTwi and i did shrimp on the barbi last noight and came up with cool idea on skewers....
I am going to try to do the large ice chest with Dry ice was gonna fill with otter pops, but I could always keep them unfrozen till mid week then throw them in..
Still pondering my expenses right now...as they suddenly became NILL.uhg

Don't sacrifice the otter pops! We'll accept Mojo's kind offer to schlep frozen chicken in for us, and you can keep your freezer space :)

I'm so not a cook... was buying some camping gear (waterjugs, a Nalgene sippy cup that will be my nighttime visiting cup that can't be adulterated by others...) and was eyeballing all the "just add water!" gourmet meal packages.. even bought one to try out at home before I haul them onto the playa :)

I figure I'll live on cereal and snacks.. just like at home :)

Shelly
If you have paypal account, I can get some money to you for shopping. I'm not cooking so I can chip in on that or we can collect later on playa or whatever but if it makes sence to use you as a donkey while you're not working, we can make sure that you're not putting up hard to find cash up front. I can also send a check. We can do this later as well, we have almost a month. (So near, yet so far!)
Can you afford to wait two months, or are you going to have to go to work right when you get back?

that is so f***ed up. they tell you one thing now and then they tell you this. i feel for you. they just can't expect for you to sit on standby. they need to get their heads out of their asses. probably mismanagement of business funds. if they do reopen for you. i would still look for something else after the burn. just a thought and my opinion.

we are almost there. bring out the body shots.

oh yes, new job definatly in plans REGARDLESS!
I had been planning on it when I return from HOME, anyway(was prior idea), but thoughts of just some extra cash on real job beforehand...is wonderful, I wont hold it against him, Its pretty sad what happened to the owner and his wife, she gets clear bill of health after fighting cancer for the last year in same week their told they will lose their bizz.
Kind of hard situation.

Since they were told to hide the info from you until it happened, I'm willing to give them the "trying to keep together a small business" benefit of the doubt (well, your vouching for them helps, too). Well, 92 a week is 350 or 450 by the time you're off playa, not much, but if it keeps you going...
How hard is job search in Reno at this time? Might want to research that, because if it's brutal, maybe waiting till oct is the right idea.

Never take job hunt advice from me. Cause it's always hide in a cave.

HOw many lines? 8 in the post box.

Ima gonna see if he's up to it?
who knows...still getting new job on return regardless(been wanting too for 2 months...)
And in Reno...Im a dime a dozen, new job's are everywhere, and Im very popular with my resume...Ive worked for ALL the "BEST" and left on good terms...so Im not worried at all, just worried about funds right now for trip!
