Spider (DPW) was in a nasty hit & run

Post by Eric » Mon Dec 19, 2005 8:09 pm

I'm passing this on from a friend- for those of you who know Spider you'll know he's one of the nicest people you can hope to meet.

On Friday night about 1am, Spider was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on the corner of 20th and Florida in the Mission. It was a hit-and-run accident, and a violent one at that. He was brought to SF General's ER, and is now in the ICU and has stabilized. This accident has left him with his jaw broken in two places (his left mandible and right maxillary), a nasty laceration on his sweet face, a broken left arm, broken sinus, and due to all the swelling from this facial trauma, has been intubated/is currently on a breathing tube to keep his airway open. It is heartbreaking to say the least. We are so infinitely grateful that he did not appear to suffer any head injuries. His family has been notified, and his mother is coming up today.

This week he is going to be undegoing some surgeries for the facial fractures, and he will probably been in the ICU for at least a couple weeks. A few of us got the notice on Sunday and went to see him--he's pretty drugged up and sedated, but he did recognize us. If you want to visit him, he's on the 4th floor in ICU at SF General--since he is going to have some surgery this week, I would call before paying him a visit. The number for the ICU is 206-8201. They should know him as Spider Davila. He has a bulletin board at the foot of his bed, so any pictures or decoration for that bleak room would be welcome.

His friends at CycleCide have been an amazing support these past few days--they are organizing a group effort to find out if there were any witnesses to the accident (a police report was filed)--to keep up on any developments, go to their website (www.cyclecide.com) and sign up for an "alias email"--it will add you to their list and you will forward any CycleCide mail to your regular email. There were a couple parties going on that night, so we are hoping someone saw something. If you have any information about the accident, please email me and I'll give you the number of the contact at Cyclecide.

It goes without saying how beloved and adored our dear Spider is--he has one of the most generous hearts, quick laughs, and sweetest dispositions, with the right amount of crazy mixed in to keep us laughing. I know he would love any visits from his friends. Please send out warm and healing thoughts to him--and be careful out there.

Yow. What was it with this last weekend??? Smething really evil in the air.

Spider gets laid out really bad in a crunch drom an errant motorist. Then, Mr. Fishist gets killed by an "errant motorist".

Ever feel like drinking yourself into a coma, hoping when you wake up it'll all have been a nightmare??

Spider - a VERY late response...

Post by steelearch » Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:48 pm

I know this is fully out of left field, but I think I've finally found an old friend of mine, and his name is Spider!! We worked together some years ago at two places in San Diego. He'd remember me for being tall and kind of a dork. Anyway, if anyone has a way to contact him, please send him my e-mail address:
[email protected]
I'd really love to get back in touch, as it seems he's really found a purpose...or five...
