The bladder thingee is often called a "Solar Shower" after the most famous brand. I saw some sort of plant stand which would at least appear to work for hanging the shower (spikes to go into the ground on the bottom, long pole with a hook which hangs out from the top), it was priced at about $13. (I didn't buy it, since I have no idea how I would get it out to the playa. Maybe next year.) This year maybe I will just try sticking the bag on the roof of a vehicle (and hopefully not drive too many people away from the event.)

Only fill your solor shower 1/3. That water gets dam hot. More if your going to beg a shower stall. That way you can gift some hot water for the loan of the stall. I use a wet soap towel then a wet towel. Has worked for years for me.
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

A yard sprayer works pretty well, and you don't need a place to hang it. Something like this (but leave the extender thingy off the end of the hose):

A cheap one costs about 15-20 bucks at the hardware store.

It's also useful for washing dishes.

:-> I follow my own advice, Barbie.

Actually, I take a spit bath with a bowl of warm water - no run off gray water, controlled about of water used, no puddle, no mess. shrug - to each her own.

Wherever I am, if I see a water truck spraying the road, I immediately strip down and chase the truck. Very refereshing. Then the problem is the 20 pound mud casings on my feet. It's one of those BM experiences you have to be careful that it doesn't bleed into your non- BM life.

I'm going to hang my solar shower from one of the yurt rafters. I have long hair so I need to wash it at least two or three times out there, but the rest of the time I do foot-, sponge- and oil baths. Agree on the dish-washing (and hand-washing) point: I bring at least two solar showers and one gets used for nothing but handwashing.

Is it just me, or is "single shower" [showering singlerly] so not in the spirit of Burning Man? Thank God BDC&WB's shower holds two very comfortably.

Shower Stall at REI: About $25.

Post by Ingram » Mon Aug 07, 2006 8:24 pm

REI sells 1-person enclosuers for about $25,
and the "solar shower" is available at any
good camping section of Walmart or Sportmart,
afor about $9. Put the bag on the car roof a couple
hours, cover ground with a tarp and 4 2"x4"'s
(prevent gray water on the playa) and you're set.

It is very important that it be set on the car roof which will make it closer to the sun...
