Actually, it is against the event permit to block traffic on the main road so you will not only get a ticket, the org could get in trouble for it too . The shoulders are too soft for many vehicles to use so I wouldn't advise people to tempt fate and see if the shoulder will support their vehicle and load because if you guess wrong, you are stuck in deep dust.
It's just easier to arrive on Monday and not have to worry about it.

Yeah. Last year I hit a bump on 34 about 1/2 way up, and the crap piled next to me fell in my lap. Oopsie. I pulled over for a quick second (maybe 5-10 minutes) to re-jostle stuff to the other side of the seat again, and a PCSO, a BLM, and an NHP all stopped in that 5-10 minute span. The common denominator was, tho, they all asked if everything was OK - not combative or antagonistic. But yeah, they are patrolling *really* tightly, so don't plan on trying to hang on the road.Badger wrote:As I understand it the local police and the Nevada Highway Patrol have always frowned on parking on the shoulder. It ain't cool and can cause some serious problems.

I was a little kirk in opening this thread. By patroling and ticketing the police are helping you. If you get stuck for any reason on this desert you in deep du du. If you your are driving and hit the shoulder it can flip you in a heat beat. If you pull off onto the shoulder you will sink in the sand. Have flares ready for the dumb asses that don't read the warnings.
