Arrival dates changed?

I don't believe it has gone out to the theme camps yet. I read them pretty carefully and haven't seen it but I could have missed it. In any case thanks again for the info...

BTW, don't even think of Bruno's. All rooms are rented out at least a week prior to the gates opening up. Dropping anyone off at the gate to wait it out (it happens) isn't kosher either. It makes the Gate people a bit *skittish before it finally pisses the off.....
Isn't there a special place for people to wait who can't get into the gate immediately? In years past I've had to spend time there while the gate staff worked through their issues and found that, yes, I really was on the early arrival list. Purgatory, I believe it's called and if I weren't so damn busy before the event I'd get a devil costume and go out to play with those who get stuck there. Does waiting there bother the gate staff?

Perhaps it won't be so bad. We're most likely going to be getting there mid-day-ish sunday, so it's only 12 hours till opening. Maybe she can hang out, help out, meet people, etc. This will be her first year. I just don't want to abadon her, but she is a big girl. ;)

Dropping her off in a town on the way doesn't appear to really be an option.

This was put out to our theme camp on June 11:
So we've all gotta be on a frickin' list now to get Themecamp-early entry.

...

Send 'em STAT 'cause I'm supposed to have the list to them by THIS Friday, which means I need it done Thursday night.
It might have gone out by email, not sure. The above was from the camp whippencracker.

I don't recall off the top of my head when I applied. She ended up riding with me after someone else bailed, but before I knew I had gotten on the early list. doh. :)

I swear Chronos hates me lately. ;)

I have a feeling any such area is going to be swamped this year. Apparently many don't keep up with places such as eplaya et al and won't get the word that they can't just cruise through the gate on Sunday if they claim theme camp membership. There are going to be a lot of folks that are going to get a surprise. It really isn't any different than years past. If you are part of a camp you can still get in early, you just need to be on the list. This is to show BLM that access is indeed being limited to theme camp setup on Sunday. Sunday entry was always limited to theme camp participants, they just took people's word for it and apparently BLM felt many who were not theme camp participants were taking advantage of that and using Sunday for a more general event entry.

I think the general down and dirty suggestion is to drop folks off at the 12 mile playa entry point where camping is half decent - providing they have a tent and supplies. Came back and get them later when the event opens.

art car parking place

Post by Rusted Iron » Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:34 pm

Our theme camp hasn't been official and mapped for the last few years. This has never been a problem but it looks like it's going to be, this year.

The camp-member who's towing the Rat car can only do it on Saturday, then he has to turn around in the morning and go back to work until late in the week.

Does anyone know if there's a place for him to drop off the Rat, near the gate? One of the other camp members can drive it in, after BM is officially open.

I am guessing he could put it in the parking lot. The gate folks would be the ones to ask but I would imagine something could be worked out.
