UK BURNERS -- NEW LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS

Post by geekster » Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:21 pm

In light of the exposure of a terrorist plot to bomb possibly up to 20 aircraft flying from the UK to the US, some restrictions have been placed on carryon luggage.

You may not carry any liquids of ANY SORT if flying to the USA.
The Transport Department has announced the following restrictions.

With immediate effect, the following arrangements apply to all passengers starting their journey at a UK airport and to those transferring between flights at a UK airport.

All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports.

Passengers may take only the following items through a airport security search point. They must be in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag. Nothing may be carried in pockets:

:: Pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards, etc (not handbags)).

:: Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets).

:: Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg, diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.

:: Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases; contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.

:: For those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).

:: Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes), tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs keys (but no electrical key fobs).

All passengers must be hand searched and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened.

Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.

In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

Airports operator BAA said there are no changes to current hold baggage security measures but significant delays at airports were inevitable.

Passengers are being asked to allow themselves plenty of extra time and to ensure that other than the few permitted items listed above, all their belongings are placed in their hold baggage and checked in.

A BAA statement said: "We wish to stress that these are precautionary measures. During the next few days airports will be extremely busy, therefore only those intending to fly should come to the airport.

"Passengers are asked to use public transport to get to and from the airport wherever possible.

"Passengers are also asked to be patient while these additional security measures are put in place. Delays are likely and passengers are therefore asked to allow extra time for their journey."

I recently got a nice pair of shoes at airport security.
They are much nicer than the pair I left there.

I started CPAP about 2 weeks ago, and it has made a HUGE difference for me (I was at 30 apneas per hour average, with about 30mins of REM per night!!!). I have around 300AH of 12v, which I think should be really really overkill... and a generator, which I don't want to use.

Thing is that international flights have a more strict weight requirement for checked luggage. If you are not allowed any carry-on luggage at all, then that can significantly reduce the amount of stuff you can take.

I have a hard time even imagining going to BRC right after getting off an international flight... I need to think about this next time I stress because I want to take some extra shit but my trailer already has 2000lbs of gear on it.

Yes, I too salute those who go to BM off of an international flight. Of course, it would solve the problem of getting over the Rockies with waaaay too much gear on a vehicle that isn't built for the Rockies.

*sigh* I want to teleport to Burning Man! Someone gift me a teleporter?

Yap, it will run 12v. Have not tried 12v yet. Better get with huh? I,m sure Hot Whzzls camp can pump your battery up. It comes under Alter Abled aka handy caped. It's a great machine. Not only for sleep but CPOD. I have already built a box with a filter. So the machine has clean air to start with. Just took a cardboard box the right size for the Ccapp. Then a lamp table (size) charcoal air filter. Change from 120v. ac to a 12v.dc block fan. Put the intake of the filter in another box. Make intake hole for a filter cloth that is made for floor registers. These are cheap and come 6-8 per pack.

Well I'll be flying from Amsterdam to Santa Barbara, then I'll have to drive to BRC....
Teleportation? Someone said it's the journey that matters, not the destination, and he/she had a point.

I just noticed that Jet Blue now has restrictions on US domestic flights. Looks like I can't bring my case of Pabst with me on my flight this time.

Any updates? I heard it got toned down (from red to orange) but does this effect these emergency rules?

I just spoke to Jet Blue and in order to encourage people to check all their luggage, they are allowing an additional checked piece of luggage.

Very handy for those of us that live on the right side of the country.
