Using a web browser that accepts any kind of active content from any/all sites by default is not good.

Adblock and it's automatic filtersetG updater are also nice.

For what it's worth, it appears that the evil image has been removed (for those - like me - who can't bear walking past a crash scene without looking) The link now defaults to the site's root page.

Surfing with IE is like walking through Jiffy Lube with your pants down, swimming in the south pacific with an open wound, or attending a political fundraiser with a valid credit card (or so I imagine -- I wouldn't do THAT either.)

As for Firefox I've held off making the switch...with all those addons though I need to get off my butt and try it out.

Oh, after some additional thought, my barely-educated guess is that the image in question may have been using the malformed jpg attack. That sucker will get ya if you save the image to your desktop and look at it there. (it has nothing to do with the download process -- or what browser you use, for that matter) From what I can tell, said images just display garbage -- which may be why it doesn't (didn't) show up on the e-playa post.

That was a flaw in the windows image rendering engine, and A fix has been out for this for months.

Time to check that all current patches/updates have been (and are being) applied.

You are probably correct. I was unfairly piggybacking on a stereotype. However, I do believe that stereotype will elicit an appropriately increased level of caution, which is what was intended.

I have returned safely from Oregon, where Mantis had a LOVELY time performing at the String Cheese Incident concert in Eugene.

Oh, BTW... I'm sure that the image was not an intentional attack, but merely a Herring experiment gone awry.... nonetheless, the warning was in order!

Yes Komrade Kernul. Communications have been down these last few weeks (all of the Northern Mountain Peoples Alliance mourn the loss of the Motherboard). Recovery of data is tedious. Perhaps a resend to ensure a glorious finale (all secret codices also lost until further notice).
