El Wire experts inside quickly

Post by pbmaniac2000 » Fri Aug 11, 2006 4:03 pm

Ok so i have El Wire, but am not sure about drivers. My first question is can i find these drivers at most computer stores? We have a super electronics store here in town, but they know nothing about elwire. It is about 10 feet of el wire that will go on my bike.

Computers store usualy only carry drivers for Cold Cathode tubes for modded cases, not EL wire inverters (drivers).

Look around online. There are quite a few dealers out there that will get you the stuff in time for BM. Just make sure the inverter is rated to power that amount of wire. 8)

Go to online EL-wire suppliers. They will have the best selection, prices, and information.

Also, keep in mind you need to connect the wire to the driver. Does the wire you have come with a wire and connector, or is it bare wire? If bare, you'll also need soldering supplies - copper foil, wire stripper, soldering iron, solder, shrink tubing. If it already has a wire leading off it, the connector you have might not match the one on the driver. So, you may have to splice the wires directly together.

Do you already have a battery worked out? I recommend getting AA battery holder instead of using 9-volt batteries. They last longer and cheaper to run over time.

How do you feel about dealing with.....The Devil? Because you can get nifty little EL drivers, with about 30" of Hella Phat attached AND a nice connector, for six or seven bucks. (OR 5 on clearance, if lucky.)

But they're at WalMart.

You can also get EL wire with 12V drivers attached at many auto parts places- Pep Boys has many EL, neon and LED toys.

If you need it NOW, go thee hence. Otherwise, you can get EXACTLY what you want online, as earlier suggested.
