where to camp

Post by maheesh » Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:39 am

can an older newbie find anywhere to park where it might be a little quieter and have a little space? Is parking an rv outside the city ring not permitted? Thx

No, the only camping outside the city ring is a designated walk-in area. Your RV must be within the city limits, but don't worry, there is plenty of room.

The streets near the outer ring between 5:00 and 5:30 as well as 6:30 and 7:00 have historically been relatively quiet. This year the city plan has theme camps on the 4:30 and 7:30 spokes, so that might change.

Best thing to do is hop on a bike and ride around a bit to find a spot before parking your rig and setting camp. With an RV, you also have an option of moving your camp quickly if you find yourself in a lively neighborhood.

Hi, maheesh,

You've said the magic words: old newbie. :-> No matter where you park your RV, you can never control (a) who is going to pull in beside you 15 minutes or two days later and (b) how often and when bar cars and disco cars with deafening music drive by or stop so that people can get on or off and dance.

Bring ear plugs. There are quieter areas out in the hinterlands, but there are no quiet ears. For some suggestions, see

Have fun. Louise and I are giving away playa clothes on Friday at 2:00 pm - stop by and grab some duds. We'll be in Hushville on Chance near 8:30. Look for our banner.
