Passing this on...

Hello, Reno Burners.

This is Hagey, Grand Poobah of the Black Rock International Burner Hostel,
and I have been enlisted by the San Francisco offices to coordinate a
massive relief effort in support of FORTY Burners coming all the way from
BELGIUM who will be stranded in the Reno area tomorrow, and may be stranded
here for a couple of days.

Their $300,000 project, which will surely blow people's minds, is in
shipping containers, stranded in San Francsco by the U.S. Customs, who are
refusing to release them.

Starting at about 2:00pm tomorrow, these people will be arriving, in rental
cars, at the Sparks Burner Hostel, and will be arriving exhausted and hungry
and very bummed about how their American Exerience has gone so far. All
their camping gear is on those containers, so it is pointless to send them
out to gerlach yet.

We need everyone who has a little extra space and big HEARTS to show up here
tomorrow and give these people the chance for much-needed rest, shelter, and
support.

Very simple instructions:

We are located at 1350 Breaker Way, in Sparks. Please do not call here
asking for directions as my one phone line will be very busy. Mapquest
WORKS, so does Radical Self-Reliance.

Do not drive down this street or park on this street. We are being closely
monitored by certain neighbors and the police.

Park in the shopping center parking lots at the south end of this street and
walk down here.

Pick your one or two or three or four new friends, walk them back to your
car and to their rental cars which will be parked in the same area, and have
them follow you to your home, where you can show them some Genuine American
Hospitality!

It's that simple.

Please spread the word to your own personal Burner network, since a scant
minority of local Burners are subscribed to this list and thus will be
totally in the dark on this urgent need.

Can this "community" handle the task?

We shall see...

Hagey.

Toast for the fence!

Post by Rockdad » Sat Aug 12, 2006 8:56 pm

Sharing from Tribe...
http://bm.tribe.net/thread/5b8b3775-bfb ... f8ddb1e3be

OK Denizens of Black Rock City

Your most excellent Department of Public Works has completed the Trash Fence, thus creating the magical pentagon
within which Black Rock City will be built...

Finished just after noon today..the triumphant crew took a quick break for lunch and moved on to set up The Commissary Tent...

When the trash fence is done.. The City is born! The spell is cast! Our HOME is designated...

I had the honor of tying the last knots on the fence, thus sealing the city, for the second year in a row... I did my second annual intention of protection as I tied the last few knots...Holding that all citizens of Black Rock CIty have a Safe~Fun~Fullfilling BURN!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't say enough what an honor it is to be part of the DPW... To be here and see the playa go from empty to transform before my eyes into our fair city!!!
This crew is a star studded bunch of amazing folks who are rising everyday at 5:30 to eat at 6 have our meeting at 6:30 and then lauch into another full day of work so that burning man can happen...
Might I STRONGLY suggest that when you are planning for your trip to the playa that you grab a little something extra to give back to the DPW during the annual DPW Parade at the end of the week during burning man....
These people give their blood sweat and energy so that when everyone else arrives there is an incredible place to have Burning Man Happen...
~~~~~~~~
The playa is beautiful .. the weather has been perfect,,, calm in the AM with winds rising in the afternoon... very little dust storm action thus far..

Playa is crufty in places and it will "very likely be a very dusty year" according to the crustiest DPW veteran I could find...

Reporting to you LIVE from Black Rock Saloon, Gerlach Nevada...
~~~~~~~~
P.S. Tomorrow night ..... Captain Erotica Sleeps on the Playa...
