Solar shower/evap pond

Post by scruffyboy » Wed May 24, 2006 6:56 pm

I've used this idea sucessfully for a couple of years.....
I take an inexpensive (10-15 $$) 1-2 gallon garden sprayer re-paint with black Krylon "fusion" paint. I replace the "sprayer" nozzle and hose with a sink sprayer and hose. Pump it up and you're good to go!
BE CAREFUL though, Check the temp of the water and add cooler water if it's too hot!
For the evap pond I've used a cememt "mixing" tub and towel method.
For 1-2 people this seems to work well an doesn't take up that much space. Plus it's re-usable.

Could you explain your evap pond a little better?
I'm going solo this year and trying to figure out the best, small, way to make an evaporation pond.

What is your "rain plan"?

Evap pond

The *mixing tub* is from Home Depot, it's used for mixing small batches of cement /mortor and comes in 2-3 different sizes. It's black and pretty durable plastic. Whatever doesn't evaporate during the day is sopped up with a towel and hung up.

Right, but what is your plan in case it rains for two or three days. It's happened before. Be prepared to haul all that water out with you.

Have a backup plan, don't rely 100% on evap.

We have the same black mixing tubs. Wonderful things, very sturdy.

We put our mixing tub under the car when not in use

Hot enough that it still evaporates and it doesn't collect any rainwater. This assumes your tub is s small one.
