Dangerous waters
I seem to always be harping on health issues, but U.S. health is deteriorating rapidly.
Here's one for Burners. Much bottled water comes in opaque containers. This is PET,,,,made with an antimony catalyst. The longer it's in the sun, the more antimony leaches into the water. It's a poison, plain and simple.

It's a much better idea to stock up on water that's in clear containers.

I'm too tired right now to post cites but there's a whole bunch of stuff out there that seems to give this antimony leaching claim some validity.

Antimony is in the same family as arsenic. Maybe you could supliment with arsenic instead of antimony.
Kinetic, rather than cites, just take a gallon of water in PET and let it sit in the hot sun for a week. The taste is unpalatable regardless of what you call the stuff in it.

The PET bottles are the clear ones, while the opaque ones are HDPE, no? And HDPE-bottled water always tastes like plastic. Wonder how bad for us it is compared to the PET stuff.
I grimace every time I see a case of bottled water sitting in the sun, or people reusing the bottle that's been baking in their car for days. I reuse mine, but not if they've baked (at least while in my possession), and I wash 'em in cold water. Now I'm thinking about other options. Sheesh.

This seemed like a good place for this article. If you live in Santa Monica, it's especially interesting. The most interesting part is the absolute denial by GOV;

Now, we're told that our high fructose corn syrup has mercury,,, our PET has antimony,,,,our vaccines have mercury,,,, our water has fluoride,,, that attacks the hippocampus,,,, our food is either nuked or has live bacteria,,, our fish has mercury,,, our paint has lead,,,,,, our soda has a neurotoxin [aspartamine],,,, our beef has mad-cow,,,, our corn and soy has mutant genes
It just makes you want to live on spring water and chocolate.

That sounds pretty good!can't sit still wrote:.....It just makes you want to live on spring water and chocolate.
You know though, today we are living longer and healthier then in the past. Agreed, lots to work on and appreciate you pointing that out.
So, even if the sky is falling and the end is near, it's fallen faster and the end was nearer before.
The future container might be wood. or a wood plastic. Woody??
I like then idea of a hemp bottle.

It's true, man's lifespan is lengthening. As a hunter-gatherer, man saw a lot of famine. Back then, there were the predators and the elements. I believe that man has been through 2 ice ages. I believe that the biggest killer of man is parasites. 30,000 children under 5 y.o. die every day... most from polluted water. I've had giardia twice. It's no picnic,,, especially for me. I had half my intestines removed a long time ago. The parasites really knock the hell outa me. I swam in the Nile for several days but, somehow managed to avoid shistosomiesis. That one goes to the liver and kills.
Genetics play a big role in longevity too. There is a compound in all living things called super oxide dimutase. A pigeon weighs the same a s a rat. A pigeon has 12 times as much SOD as a rat and lives 12 times as long. Man has the highest rate of any animal,,, I believe. Reportedly, lifespan is 100 % related to your % of SOD.
Caloric restriction will reportedly lengthen lifespan by 40 %. The same effect can be obtained by supplementing with Resveratrol.. It affects the actual expression of genes.
i'm taking both SOD and resveratrol

yeah, those supplements........
seems there's always a new one discovered, that, will makes us Methuselah......
I think one thing that is missed in all the "studies" is genetics and location.
we, historically, lived in the same place for generations, developing affinities and, immunities to local things.
we moved, interbred, and, changed things. Arguably, for the better, but, it also makes it difficult to apply any sort of "cure" to the general population, regarding aging and such, since, it has such subtleties related to genetics.

Good thing that I found this old thread. I found a VERY interesting article that links bottled water consumption to autism. Just NOT the way you would think. It appears that autism has risen at the same rate as bottled water consumption. The bottled water lacks lithium. The authors claim that lithium deficiency in the mother results in autism. Very interesting.
