bike advice (attaching 2 to back of truck with a topper)

Most racks seem to be made for cars with trunks or those with a trailer hitch....we've got a small toyota truck and want to mount 2 bikes to the back on the tail gate...

has anyone tried this or have any ideas? is anyone offering bike transport from SF to playa early (on sat./sun) - will help with gas $ of course

Nathan, if you don't have a shell on the truck, then jjust strap the bikes on top of your load... It don't have to be pretty looking to make it to the Playa...

There is a bike rack made for the front of your litle truck. It is a u-shaped tube with straps to the hood and small chains around the bumper. E search a little and see what you can find. Or bike and trike stores.

I use one that hangs off the back bumper. It uses the whole where a trailor hitch would go. I think its a Thule. Paid about $80 for it. Works OK....

Does your truck have a tow package?

If so, there are bike racks that hook into the receiver, like the tongue of a trailer hooks into the hitch.

We made ours out of scrap parts and it works okay, but the ones that are sold at bike shops are nicer: They are more compact and have a slimmer profile.
