Kids get the sex thing, they just don't get the adult attitudes. At 8,9 or 11, it is making a baby.

Maybe that is the thing to help make the point. Sex is about procreation, primarily. It is the secondary and social aspects, that need to be taught.
If you tell yer kid sex is taboo, wrong or mysterious, then I can guarantee the first thing that kid will do is attempt sex with someone, or something, when out of your earshot, and you have lost an opportunity to educate.

Sex is great fun, if old enough to understand that fun. It is also a world of responsibility, if that sex leads to its primary goal. THere are 6.5 billion humans on this planet. Sex usually leads to the primary, and that is probably because of a lack of education by parents.
