Any Russians here?

Post by Yoksel » Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:13 pm

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to the BM and I'm going with a friend who is also a newbie... I understand that most of the ppl on the playa are willing to help when needed, however, I still would like to meet ppl who speak my native language. I've also heard of the Russian camp on the playa and if possible would like to stay close to it.

So... any Russians here?

Not sure but they're may be some at the Black Rock City International Burner Hostel camp. At least it's a place to start.

In 04 about 80 Russians camped next to me. Lots of fun and dancing. They put out a Russian flag so others could find them. They might be here this year.

I also know of a couple of Russians at the Aeronaughty Camp. I'm sure they'd be happy to meet a comrade and would greet you with a hearty Vodka shot.

We are hosting a Vodka Party Saturday before the burn, from 2pm-6pm. One of our campmates speaks Russian very well, I'm sure he would love to chat.

In the past, there has been a quite large, unified Russian camp. I campled with them in '04, and it would be the same camp unjonharley speaks of. There were almost 100 of us that year.

Last year, and this year, the camp has been broken up into more of a village, with lots of smaller camps within it, so to say.

I believe they should be at the same location as last year. About 8:45-9, as close to the playa as possible. Look for a few pentagonal dome structures, along with a pretty spiffy art car. I'll see if I can dig up a picture. Or, do email me (imdato at gmail dot com), and I'll try to get you in contact with some of those guys. :)
