two thoughts:
Bring a big indian flag and fly it at your camp. That will be a visual clue as to origin and may bring countrymen (and women) to your camp.
Drop by the Black Rock City International Burner Hostal. You may not get greeted in your very own language (which since I've written this may turn out to be English, how embarrasing) but you will find some international perspectives there that could be just as interesting in different ways.

Ms Crypto, embarrasing indeed!!!! Hindi is the language that one encounters most of the time. English is spoken by people who are more cosmopolitan. The rural people are more likely to speak one of the 428 listed languages. 22 of these are considered official languages. The primary ones are Hindi, Malayalam, Punjabi and Bengali.
Many of the people in the south [Madras] speak excreble English that they mistakenly think is quite good.
I've caught you with your trivia down.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

I knew that in a general way there were lots of local languages and that english is one of the official langauges and spoken by educated classes.
But I sure didn't know as much about it as you.
