Leaving tomorrow. My share of the packing is done, I don't do the trailer.

I work on Sunday...then I get to head out.
This is the quietest I've seen the board in some time.
Did anyone get the latest JRS on playa conditions? By not leaving so early I can change a few things on my pack list to prepare for the colder night temps.

And the playa conditions are certainly sounding interesting!

Leaving in the morning for a lonely two day drive. Should be beautiful, though.

I’m not sure yet what to take for cold, I was just planning on a sweatshirt and pocket vest , I tend to do that for early winter, until it gets in the teens, but then I’m a baby in Minnesota , people here tend to wear t-shirts till it’s subzero.

I picked up a pair of black sweat pants...I also take a jacket and pocket heat packs that should take of the cold...if that doesn't work I'll find a firebarrel to adopt or something.

I'm filling zip-lock bags like crazy, and wishing I was just done packing already- I'm so ready to be there that I can't focus on the tedium of checking things off the list as they go in the bags.

I'm also trying to figure out why I think I need 6 different hats. They're all coming, so hopfully they'll be needed.

We head off tomorrow.

Eric,

You sent me a sweet reply when I was being all depressed about not going this year... ranting on and hating life.

Well, after all that I AM going!! Its utter decadence, I'm flying in Burn Saturday and leaving after the Temple burns SUnday... but I feel so happy!

It is my favorite city in the world, and you can only be there one week out of the year...

Kristina, that's fantastic!!

Congratulations on making it, even for just a little bit. Sometimes a little dose of Black Rock is enough to keep you going until next year.

Looks like we get to say it after all:

I'm just glad that when I was planning my night outfits this year, polyester suits seemed to make up the bulk of the list. Those puppies (and the wool penguin tails) oughta keep me on the warm side.

I did toss in some thermal pants & long sleeve t's just to make sure, and I'm trying to figure out what happened to my army blanket. I don't normally need one in the RV, but better safe than sorry.

6 hours left until I'm free to go!
At least I know I'm not the only one who isn't out there yet.

Also this is off the "forecast discussion" page of the NWS Reno, NV website....

.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY... NO MAJOR CHANGES. PROGRESSIVE TROUGH TO CONTINUE EASTWARD WEDNESDAY WITH LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS MAINLY AROUND I-80 SOUTHWARD ALONG THE SIERRA FRONT AS WINDS SHIFT TO NORTHERLY OVER NORTHWEST NEVADA AND NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA BEHIND SURFACE COLD FRONT. COLD FRONT WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE ITS WAY ACROSS ENTIRE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH NORTHEAST TO EAST GRADIENT TO PREVAIL THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH A GRADUAL DECREASE IN MAGNITUDE. TEMPERATURES WILL COOL TO NEAR NORMAL WITH 80S IN MOST WESTERN NEVADA VALLEYS. THE GFS SHOWS RIDGE SHIFTING EAST OVER THE UPCOMING WEEKEND WITH WEAK TROUGH ALONG THE WEST COAST AND RESULTING INSTABILITY BUILDUP OVER THE SIERRA. AT THIS TIME DO NOT WANT TO INTRODUCE POPS SO FAR OUT IN THE EXTENDED GIVEN THE TRACK RECORD OF TOO MUCH INSTABILITY TOO QUICKLY AND THE FACT THAT WE ARE HEADING INTO SEPTEMBER WHEN SOLAR ANGLES AND ASSOCIATED DAYTIME HEATING ARE DIMINISHING. SO THE EXTENDED WILL REMAIN DRY FOR NOW. HOHMANN

You might want to think about things you can do just in case it rains a bit. And at least the temps should be reasonable.

Well, whoever plans to drive may want to make contingencies for return home fuel for your auto. I ws just up there this past weekend and the gas situation in Gerlach is DIRE. There is NO gas anywhere to be had. No word on when deliveries will be made. This may last well into the week and possibly post-event. Consider fuel canisters and filling them at least to get you back to Wadsworth and/or Reno.
