Sad to be back

Post by Stobor » Thu Sep 07, 2006 3:55 pm

Glad to hear that everyone made it home OK. I'm technically at work, but my mind is still on the playa.

It was wonderful to meet everyone, and hope to stay in touch until the next burn. Thanks to everyone for the the great conversations and good times around the ePlaya Bar.

evening all.
man, adjusting back to default is kicking my ass... had to take a nap.
having old styles now, got scolded by the bartender for reaching behind the bar for the computer's power adapter.

someday, i'm going to blow this popsicle stand.

I ordered rust repair panels for the big green truck today. When that's done, gotta decide the paint scheme. All flat tan, tan with black zebra stripes, or desert camo.

ok all you beautiful people, sorry to say but the no posts exist bug is probably going to be around for awhile. spanky is incredibly hard to get his time.

and you rock, seriously. i say that with the most sincere adoration and not just because you were so welcoming to me. i had a short conversation with actiongrl and she even knew of what you had accomplished. not only is it good to see this board spawn something like that, but you have helped me gain some new understandings in how these things work in taking something abstract like an on-line forum and making it real.

and let me add that seeing newcomers join in and help create something like that is one of the more humbling things i have seen there. when you combine that with an open and fun atmosphere twords others i think you really hit on something unique and beautiful.

please stay gold, all of you.

It was great meeting all the new faces and seeing the familiar ones once again. Just dropping by to say hi, going OTR tomorrow morning. Two days home and I'm ut and about again, I seriously need a stiff drink, or at least some PAMA.

Love you all!

I never did make it back after Wednesday, dang!

I got back to Racine around 6:30 AM Wednesday the 6th, and slept until about 10:00 AM the 7th. 2,000 miles is a long drive!

Today I got to replace my meds. which had melted into one large lump sometime during the week. (I need to put that on my list of things to do differently next time. Better med. storage.) I'm also in the process of trying to arrange to see a doctor my insurance company approves of. It seems the one I chose is not actually taking new patients! (Burning Man brought to my attention I need to get in better physical shape and need to talk to a doctor about a few health issues I have been having on and off lately.)

Currently I am procrastinating dealing with the mess which is inside the Coleman 5-Day Cooler I bought. First, the D---ed thing is NOT water-tight, and the back seat of my car now stinks of the mess which developed inside the cooler when the ice melted, and the glue EAS uses on their meal replacement bars proved to be water-soluable! Also, the ice lasted far less than 5 days.... :x

I think I will go back to my "recovery by sleeping in" program.

There were only two days in the entire month of August where the recorded high was less than 90F.

The keys to success with the extreme coolers are keeping them off the playa (so the air circulates and they doesn't absorb residual heat from the ground) and keeping them shaded as much as possible. The first year I brought mine (I have an Igloo MaxCold), the ex and I kept it on a wooden pallet and left it tarped over. We loaded it with frozen .5L and 1.5L water bottles before we left for the event, added no more than a bag and a half of ice while we were there (leftovers from other coolers as campmates arrived and we consolidated)...and 9 days later, I pulled the last partially-frozen bottle out of the cooler. The next year, it was on the ground and in the sun, and I didn't have nearly as much luck. This year, I had it elevated, but not shaded, and while things were still definitely cool, they only stayed frozen for about 3 days.

I kept mine inside my tent, but I guess that wasn't enough. (The tent did get pretty hot-- I didn't have a shade structure over it.) I'll have to add keeping the cooler off the ground and under shade to my list of things which need to be done differently.

Thanks.

The Eplaya Bar camped rocked, my only regret was I was on the other side of the world so I only got to visit it a few times. Thanks for the drinks and good times, they are some of the few good memories for me this year.

I built a custom softop kitchen for my trailer, vented sidewalls, top vent. The end of week cooler was still frozen on thursday. Airflow around coolers is a definite plus.

Anyone seen a Duck around here? We left him on a stretcher under a pile of booze on Saturday...
