Bloody nose - weee
Did anyone start getting bloody noses at random (well, what appears random) at Burning Man? I got there on Tues and started having problems around Thurs. That was the only problem I had during the entire trip. The heat just gave me energy and the dust didn't trigger any of my old astma problems. Yay.
When I was a kiddie the gas heat in the house use to cause mine (as in I would wake up with a blood nose). I assumed it was simply due to the very dry climate, me being use to Portland, Oregon and all.
What's the best prevention or prep for this?

Vicks is a mid astringent when applied in the nose after cleaning with saline. The will cauterize the litte blood vessels. If a bloody nose gets away from you. Pack your nose with two or three tighty twisted facal tissues. Them head out for first aid. I know it's bitch laying around with your nose packed. But thats the way it's done.
I'll vote for saline nasal spray as well. See our page at

for more stuff to make your playa stay enjoyable. Dust masks, for example, might help.

Thanks!
That's the one thing I failed to bring to keep my body at 100%.
...next year!
Thanks for the info.

If you keep getting them, a good solution that many heavy construction workers use in extreme conditions is to swab the inside of your nose with vasoline via a Q-tip. If keeps the the membranes from drying out and really works. I had the same problem when we rode dirt bikes in the desert, after swabbing it never happened again.
Also, If your taking asprin or similiar pain products, it thins you blood and makes the bleeds last longer before clotting.
Good Luck...

I take blood thiners that is the reason I suggested Vicks. Same deal and works well. I use it at home when I am working hard.
