Remote control for DJing - protect your gear

This guy has a suit that you wear while DJing that lets you control your stuff from the suit.

There have been posts about how to protect your gear on the playa, and this may be a way to keep your laptop, CD player, whatever, under wraps while allowing you to control the play. The suit is described as for VJs, but I'll guess that the same things would apply for music?

I can't speak for the prototype's effectiveness for VJ'ing, but for proper DJ'ing I can't see it being very functional. Let's put aside vinyl for just a moment, and consider all the controls and surfaces on a CDJ. Mine, for example, have a dozen or so buttons on each unit to control functions like play, pause, looping, reverse, etc. Then there's a control knob for adjusting vinyl sensitivity, a slider for adjusting the pitch, and the platter which can be used to make slight adjustments to the pitch as well as used as a control surface for scratching. I saw nothing on that page that can even approach the level of sophistication needed to be able to do that remotely. Let alone twice (for a pair of CDJ's), as well as the equally complex issues of making a remote capable of mimicking the controls on a good mixer.

And let's not forget that there aren't remote control ports on those devices, so you'd need to spend considerable time and expense to jack into them.

Now let's think about vinyl for a few moments. That'd require some kind of highly sensitive (as well as high speed) mechanical devices that would need to 'touch' the record, as well as provide the tactile response to the wearer.

At this point, the project sounds more costly than making a space suit for NASA. While the concept sounds interesting, I think it's far more practical to simply take precautions to protect and care for gear on and off the playa. Or hell, it'd be less expensive to just replace gear. And I'd have the benefit of the DJ's not needing to learn some archaic form of pantomime needed to be able to play in the suit (as well as making suits in various sizes for the various artists involved).

The maintenance part I think I've got under control, what I'd like to see (if anyone's got some links) is some information on an effective glare hood/guard so that displays and readouts could be seen during the day. Any ideas?
