Here's the thing with Burningman: Every project, artist, jaw dropping thing of beauty wants you to notice them. They are all competing for mind share, they want your limited attention. Hairy Chrisnas are no different. I guess in that respect at least BM irrors the dominant culture.

Here's my expereince. I saw their burn pit, which interested me. So I sat down. Soon I was engrossed in a conversation with a guy from Brooklyn. (Ha, leave it to me to find an east coaster). Then someone asked to throw more wood on the fire and a hareharekrishnakrishna dude said sure:

"As long as you realize this is a SACRED fire, and this is MAGIC wood."

I heard a lot of anger in that voice. Later I wondered about that. It's fine if he wants to believe that about the wood, but why should he be so concerned about what others believe?

As far as placement issues go? SOMEBODY should DO something about it, that's for sure.

Thanks frog for maintaining patience in the face of insanity. But really, I think it's best if the ORG do the barestminimum possible and let everybody else take care of their own shit!

BM is run by a for-profit corporation that hands out glossy brochures in an attempt to capture some of your mind share.

The more the ORG the more the internal contradicitons will pile up. The more internal contradicitons pile up, the more likely a spectacular crash and burn <ahem> will happen.

I can see the headline now:

"Larry spotted in Uruguay with breifcase full of cash and a gaggle of young, lithe and bouncy law school graduates in tow."

Rumors of Larry's imminent departure have been circulating for years yet he's still here. Sheesh, even recycling has it's limits. Next rumor please?
