Yep. The Bubble Bar had a giant Operation this year. It was cool!

I beleive there was a giant Mouse Trap game at BRC last year. This year there was a table sized Operation game, jesus christ that thing would electrocute you if you messed up haha, got me quite good. Still an awesome idea if done well I suppose. Whats giant board game are you trying to do?

Personally I would try to do a giant version of Risk, that would be pretty fun

I was thinking Scrabble JR since I wil be doing it myself.
Scrabble JR has 101 letters blocks...with a grid aprx 16x16' and letters blocks about a foot square...Just an idea at this point.. All made out of birch plywood with the letters routed into the blocks.

Risk would be cool but beyond my artistic ability, I think..

Monopoly woiuld be cool if you had a dozen or so people working on it all year....

I would have loved to see the operation game...

Anyone have any other ideas ?

Thanks

There were some dominos in 2000:

http://www.fluxdesign.com/annodomino/gallery/index.html

I believe they were something along the lines of a 2x4 frame with thin 4x8 plywood nailed to the outside. They apparently had a problem with high winds carrying them away, so you might go smaller and/or heavier.

You could do something similar with scrabble. It shouldn't be too difficult if you can get a production line going. Maybe use spray paint and a stensil to do the letters and go back over it with the router if you have time.

I'd say go as big as you can handle cost/cargo space-wise.

I like scrabble better than monopoly because it's easy for people to just step in and play for a couple of rounds.

sorry, must've been replying while you were too :)

monopoly would bee a pretty cool idea, it would take a bit of work, but i don't think it would be anything too difficult to tackle if you took the right angle.

scrabble would be pretty fun, but i could see you encountering problems if it were too big (which one would want), as it would be hard to see whats been spelled, etc.

From the image gallery for 2006 : playa scrabble game

Chinese checkers (marble hopping across a star-shaped grid) would be cool!

I think there were two Operation games this year, but I can't confirm that. the bubble bar had one on the 3 o'clock plaza. I think there was a giant game camp as well.

I don't know how you'd draw the tiles for a giant scrabble. Of course, scrabble is not my favorite as I don't spell well.

In any case, most ideas have already been done at least once already. Style counts, as do enthusiasm. Besides, when something was done before not everyone got to see it.

Yes, Operation was back this year. Just a few camps down from the giant billiards table my friends in ESU built.

As far as I know, nobody's done giant Candyland yet. Or how about welding jaws onto mutant vehicles for Hungry Hungry Hippos?

I was thinking that one of those "Traffic Jam" puzzles would be cool to do. The one where you have an enclosed grid and within that grid are pieces that have to be moved around to allow the "car" to get out.

http://www.puzzles.com/products/rushhour.htm

like that one... wow... think, if you could make them life size... only much lighter to push around.

OR....... what about a GIANT KERPLUNK game.... now THAT would be interesting...

I think a great one would be trouble. Its that game that has the little popper thing in the middle of it. In the popper was the dice. I think it would be awesome to have a giant popper.

Friend of mine did giant dominoes in '99. The other was a ripoff.

Alien Chess goes back to '97.

Lego's been done.

I did a three-foot square Scrabble board a couple years ago. Was fine for four or five players, but anything bigger and you have to get up out of your lawn chair & risk spilling drinks.

Foosball's been done.

Billiards has been done, though not at Burning Man.

I'd go tiny, so you can keep it in the shade.

Whatever you do, the lamest thing is not showing up w/o a printed set of rules, Scrabble dictionary, etc.
