I had a dream the last night before I left, after the burn, that I looked across the playa and it was totally clean. There was NOTHING left, not a single tent, not a single piece of art, and not a single person. All I could see to the mountains was the cracked totally flat earth of the playa extending in all directions into the distance. I did not feel sad, just alone. I think it was a reminder from my subconscious that it was all coming to an end and that soon the playa would regain its serenity as a desolate landscape void of life. But just as the man burns and rises again like a Phoenix, so will Burning Man rise again next year from the ashes of the last.

Oh my God I'm glad this thread is here! The night after exodus, I stayed at a hotel in Reno, and about 2am I "woke up", sat straight up in bed and looked out to see that I was still on the playa, but had been sleeping in a camp designed to look exactly like the hotel room, except in place of the big mirrors on the walls there were windows and I could look out and see the open playa beyond. It was really wild. I mumbled something like "Oh sorry you guys, I feel asleep in the wrong camp" thinking I was still at BM.

Now I think it would be neat to design a camp that looks exactly like a hotel room with all the comforts of regular sized beds and tables and TV etc... I dunno just for the extravagance and strangeness of having a "hotel room" in the middle of the desert.

Yeah, larry woke me up around 4 am in Reno and asked if I would put shoes in the dryer for him, he missed the thumpa thumpa. (Yes, we had a room with a washer/dryer, heaven!)

Reality Camp

Post by gyre » Tue Sep 26, 2006 2:03 pm

When I got home I kept dreaming I was still on the desert.
I kept waking up and wondering what camp I was in.
I was able to rationalize anything except the lack of open spaces.
Hella disorienting.

Last year I had intense neon dreams in the truck going home.
Do you think the darkness made the neon more intense last year or was there more?

I went in 03 and 04 and have missed the last two years.
It took until spring of 05 for me to start having burningman dreams and I'm still having them from time to time. Black rock city usually lacks proper roads and the camps are all wrapped around each other. People camp within a few feet of the man. I usually am there early and watch town grow in size, population, and complexity. I have fairly vivid images of unique men and women interacting enough to display unique personalities and social strata. Black Rock City style architecture predominates and occasional art pieces, some of them being worked on.

One dream had people building many condos and houses on the hills surrounding the playa.

Once, this spring, after my girlfriend gave me a rather prolonged cranial sacral session, I had a dream that was more visually and kinestheticly intense than waking 'reality' and I woke up on the playa. It was sunny and the ground was hard and cracked and the wind was blowing gently.
Any sound had the natural ambiance of reflection bouncing off of the ground.

That place where we gather in Nowhere Nevada is no longer the place it was before we got there. And we're no longer the people who arrived in cars, trucks, and busses. That place has been blessed with so much energy, I swear it going to be a transdimensional portal soon.

My last trip to the playa I consumed no drugs and stayed mostly sober.
I dropped by a friend's house and slept 2 days before driving 3,000 miles home in 72 hours. When I woke up on the couch, I remember looking at the palms of my hands, wondering what they were, and "what [in creation] had happened that had caused them to exist in this place"
It's difficult to try to accurately explain what went on right there.
At that moment, I lacked a mind. Consciousness hadn't coalesced into forms as small and granular as 'words'
The "grounding" into my friend's appartment was like having a lobotomy where in order to squeeze my consciousness into this place on earth was like having 99% of myself stripped away.

Now, when I have "playa dreams" I wake up and wonder if all of those unique people and faces are real people I met in Black Rock City and failed to notice for the barrage of stimuli there and am just retrieving their memories, or are they fabrications of my subconscious, or are they real people I haven't met yet. People who went to the playa in person where I could only partially visit in spirit body. People who I may meet in person one day and hug, rib to rib and feel their heart pound in their chest against mine and their belly open up with breath against mine.

This isn't just the 'Frisco Laborday party in the desert folks.
This event is bigger and deeper than you imagine.

Now I tell my finacee~ yes He proposed on playa, wedding next yr out at BM Thursday night, that they just keep coming, but its like my default life has merged w/ Bm and its all crazy and mixed up...well kinda like the playa...whipeee!!!!!!!

Hi Pinemom. I never get tired of saying "welcome" to you.

Smudge: That was really profound. Especially your last paragraph. I'm told people meditate for years and never get there. Good on ya'.

Something very much like that has happened to me every year. The dreams occur just about every night for about two or three weeks. And then I have to wait until the next year except for random reprises. :?

This was my first year, and I was suprised at both the number and vividness of the dreams I have had since leaving. They're a great comfort to me and I hope I keep having them until next year.

I dreamed about burning man last night.
The eplaya bar was in the dream.
It was great seeing all of you again.
It's nice to get back out there.

And you were there.
And you.
And you...
