I'll retake it when I'm not at work and trying to rush through it in 6 1/2 minutes....or doing all those shots.

i've gone through a buttload of online iq tests, as well as some more academic ones offline. most iq tests seem to test some combination of education, memory, and puzzle solving/complex pattern recognition ability, some of which can be very culturally/education specific.

quite a few of the online tests seem to report unusually high scores, to a point - they all seem to top out somewhere around 145. scores around 140 are much more common than scores around 100. that's probably good for self esteem, but it's not really good for doing a proper evaluation of whatever it is that you call i.q.

140 is close to two standard deviations from the mean, and should probably be evaluated with a specialized test aimed at that particular area of the distribution than relying on metrics developed around the median.

I got a 136, stone cold sober, yet feeling kind of fragile. Also I took the "intuitive" approach to all the math questions (wild ass guess).

Speaking of IQ tests and their ilk, here's a related story that I found on msn.com:

I had bad online IQ test habit a while back. I loved the wildly differing assessments. They were anywhere from 108 to 147. I knew that i had to find just the right one to call me a genius. Then I found the one that scored me at 152. I was happy, and stopped there.

I found that I did poorly on th ones that are based on integer patterns, and did way better on word problems.

Either way, they're all skewed towards mathematics, and none of them test creative problem solving, comprehension of new ideas, or my incomparable cooking abilities, so I say they're all claptrap.

Oh, I'm good enough at the kinds of things that test measures, but I'm dense as hell when it comes to actual useful skills like taking hints, reading body language, and understanding women ... you know, all that intangible stuff that comes in handy outside of school and work (neither of which interest me in the slightest). Believe me, raw intelligence is profoundly overrated.
A distinct possiblity of something to explain this is Asperger's Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. Those are almost ALL of the classic symptoms... (I should know; I have it, too...).

ps: 194. Which, if this test is to be belived, puts me at number four on the list of the highest IQ scores ever recorded. I'm smart, but I'm not THAT smart!!!

194 - Fuckin A Raheer... (BTW I find it hilarious that the higher scored among us want to post it in a teeny tiny font)

I'm guessing it's nothing quite like Asperger's syndrome in Flux's case... and more symptomatic of just being a *guy*.

It's just a little number that reflects your test taking abilities and classroom aquired knowledge. I stared at the screen as the seconds ticked by and breathed a sigh of relief that my humble score did not send me into fits of low self esteem. Darn, I'll never be a member of that special mighty big IQ club.

Thanks, Raheer, I had almost forgotten about that!

I read an interesting article about adults with Asperger's Syndrome several years ago, and the description fit me perfectly. (I was hoping to post a link to it, but I can't find it now.)

When I was a child, I fit the description much more closely. As I have gotten older, the symptoms (for lack of a better word) have diminished to some extent. My social skills have improved somewhat, but I think I'm still below the norm in that area.

I'd be interested to hear more about your experience with Asperger's if you're so inclined.

i'm quite sure that aspbergers syndrome is the adult version of adhd: something for which there exists no definitive test aside from a loosely collected set of behaviors that could apply to well over half of the population, and as a result of which over diagnosis is extremely common.

that doesn't mean that it's not a real problem i just suspect that the people who really have it exhibit the symptoms to a degree which those only claiming to have it can't even imagine.

asperger's syndrome is a form of high level autism, that, unfortunately, is usually not diagnosed until the subject reaches somewhere around the teens. It is usually diagnosed as other learning disabilities, which is quite often why it is hard to diagnose. Although some people with it have, or at least misdiagnosed with, ADHD, they are not directly related.

My younger brother has Asperger's, I know a bit about it.

I got 126, so I'm borderline Gifted. And I beat my sister, ha ha!

I took the Verbal and got 126, too. Expected to do better with that but a couple of the questions totally blindsided me and one positively made my head spin. Still, top five percentile is nothing to sneeze at :)

Wish one could go over and see the correct answers because in a couple places I wasn't sure whether I'd guessed correctly or missed completely. I'd like to try out their "liquid intelligence" test, I've never heard of that before. Never stop learning, I guess :)

Not smart at all really....so sue me!
I would rather be loved for my looks than my brains anyway.
This is because some days I might want to be someone else....
Or just plain dumb.

No brains, no effect. Yup, that is me alright.
Guess you will have to find someone else, as I can't keep up very well.
They don't call me "Zona" for fun ya know. Remember, I'm the guy driving around with an anchor in the back of his car, never know when you might need one.
