I wish I knew, but I seem to recall that prior to the website update a couple of days ago there was a note stating that 'it could take a while' because they're a little overwhelmed - this was a generic statement and included theme camp registation and the like too.

...based on previous years, if you get it in before june 1, you get it back quick. If you get in in after june 1, you may not get approval/denial until august. If you do not hear anything, that generally is a good sign. Obvious denials seem to happen first, then questions about borderline cases, then approvals. YMMV. good luck!

Man DJ... you guys are making me feel like such a slacker (just read your progess on your tracked vehicle). Just got the tralier put together yesterday (using it as the base frame), and just picked up the first load of lumber today. YAY! I finally get to start really building!

The drive wheel should come in tuesday.

I'm considered a pretty fair builder in Kinetic Racing circles, but I get the feeling I'm going to get a bit of a reality check when I arrive on the Playa!

Yes... triangulation is the key to structural integrity!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm alright at building stuff, but I think this is one of the largest things I've built to date, and I know it's still going to look small compaired to most things out there. I think mutant vehicles are like fish and snakes. They grow to the size of their holding tank. The playa is one massive tank...

As a lover of dome buildings, yes, triangles freakin' rock. The round front is pretty stable already. Once the cross brace on the inside aft is in, it will lock that bad boy down.

Now I just have to build the aft wall, the sail mast, the rudder, the motor mount, the drive wheel mount, figure out how to make a load-bearing rudder and have it pivot without torquing off, steering wheel/pedals/throttle.. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Hey everyone it was great motivation to see your projects develop for 2006, keep the posts coming here with your 2007 wheeled creations, I wanna see what you're up to and reveal the progress of my newest monster. Found some used but great shape drag wheels! I'm going to do a tall trike for next fall, a thing that will roll nicely near and far (I am over the tracked thing for a bit thank you very much

) That's the frame (salvaged 4" EMT conduit pieces welded together) being scoped for size against the gigando enormous dragway slicks the UPS guy probably hates me for getting delivered here to my secret building site. 33x17's for the rear, 32x14 on the front

woa. much much bigger in person than they looked on the sale site and very very cool. Now have to come up with a front fork and pedal design, I think it will end up being kind of a recumbent setup with a large lay-back seat and the pedals high up driving the front wheel. I'm excited. Thanks Elliot for getting me hooked on the big wheels, I'll never be the same.

That looks great, Tiahaar. A trike will roll a lot easier than a four wheeler
-- not to mention a tracked vehicle!

I made the fork from a bicycle fork. The cross bars ("triple trees" in
motorcycle lingo, I think) are 1" x 1 1/2" steel tubing. The legs are 1"
black pipe from any hardware or plumbing store. I used a 1" hole saw to
make the holes in the cross bars. The axle is fastened to the legs with
U bolts from the hardware store. Nothing to it.

(Tires are 34" tall, 18+ wide -- from dirt track Sprint Cars.)

and its all your fault I got into this you know...loved that chopper!

My fork will be the technical part of the build. There will be a jackshaft halfway down with a shimano nexus multi-speed bike hub. The crank and pedals will be on the upper end of the fork with a chain down to the nexus. Then another chain will feed the front wheel axle. A tricky thing I want to do is have a third chain that bypasses the freewheel part of the hub and can be engaged through a hand lever to give a reverse. With the seat six feet up I won't be doing the feet scoot backup thing heheh.

Sounds like a plan. You can also run a chain in a figure 8. Seems a bit crude,
but works fine, specially if you run the chain thru plastic guide tubes.
